@RABEL222,
It's not religion that's blamed for the gridlock. It's party politics. No negotiating. No "yes" on any legislation. No brain function. No accountability. No no no no no.....a thousand times no.

Ken Burns excoriates Donald Trump
Speaking at Stanford's commencement, Ken Burns absolutely lit into Donald Trump. Watch:

A "reap what you sow" tweet from Texas Lt. Governor Dan Patrick that went out hours after approximately 50 people were killed at a Florida LGBT nightclub has been deleted amid backlash.

http://ww3.hdnux.com/photos/47/20/36/10291114/4/920x920.jpg

At precisely 7 a.m. Sunday Dan Patrick tweeted a photo with the words of Galatians 6:7. The verse reads, "Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows."

The Twitterverse circled the tweet, commenting that it was inappropriate and insensitive considering the context of the day's events. The Texas Democratic Party called for Patrick to apologize.

"Tweeted as new breaks of mass casualties at a gay nightclub. Vile," one Twitter user said. "Have you no shame?"

Patrick's adviser Allen Blakemore issued a statement explaining that the tweet was an unfortunate coincidence.

"Lt. Governor Patrick and every Texas is stunned and saddened by the outrageous act of domestic terrorism that has occurred in Orlando," Blakemore said. "... Regarding this morning's scripture posting on social media, be assured that the post was not done in response to last night's tragedy. The post was designed and scheduled last Thursday."

A Bible verse is tweeted from Patrick's account every Sunday at 7 a.m.

Another verse was tweeted from the account 30 minutes later, this time from Psalm 37:39, which reads, "The Salvation of the righteous come from the Lord; He is their stronghold in time of trouble."

Texas Democratic Party Chair Gilberto Hinojosa issued a statement offering thoughts and prayers to the LGBTQ community.

"Hate and violence have no place in America," he said. "Unfortunately, Texans in mourning for our families in Florida woke up to an embarrassment from their lieutenant governor. Lt.Gov Dan Patrick, please apologize immediately. Make this right. We are better than this."

Orlando Police Chief John Mina says authorities have not determined an exact number of people killed, but that "approximately 50" have died.

Florida Department of Law Enforcement Special Agent in Charge Danny Banks says the mass shooting is being investigated as an act of terrorism. He says authorities are looking into whether this was an act of domestic or international terror, and if the shooter was a lone wolf.

Mina says the shooter was armed with an assault-type rifle, a handgun and some type of suspicious device. Police had said previously on Twitter that there was a "controlled explosion" at the scene of the shooting at Pulse Orlando. Mina says that noise was caused by a device intended to distract the shooter.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Craigslist ad threatens Orlando-style massacre in San Diego
Source: ABC News - San Diego

Police are investigating an online threat of violence to San Diego's LGBT community that read: "You're next."

On Tuesday evening, a 10News viewer saw the post in the men-seeking-men section of the Craigslist San Diego personal ads. He took a screenshot and sent it to 10News before the post was flagged and removed.

The post is titled "We need more Orlando's (sic)," and it is accompanied by a photo of a hand firing a revolver with a bullet coming out of the barrel.

The post read: "Orlando was long overdue. Cleanse your community of the filth that gives decent gay men and women a bad name. Those people were walking diseases, bug chasers, and thank god for AIDS and 9-11 and now Orlando. San Diego you are next …"

Grassley argues against gun-buying ban for names on FBI no-fly list
MGN
By Melissa Dawkins, KCRG-TV9 |

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) -- Despite the mass shootings last weekend at an Orlando, Florida, nightclub, Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley continues to believe that people on FBI no-fly lists should still be able to buy guns.

He contends those no-fly lists are not accurate. So does the National Rifle Association. But presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump supports banning gun sales to anyone on the no fly lists.

And Trump says he plans to meet with the NRA to discuss the issue. Grassley told us he's not sure what Trump's position is, but Grassley said he only supports gun-buying bans for people who have gone through due process of the judicial system.

"I think we all agree that people being on a list, constitutionally put there, having due process, in the process of being there, is a perfect way of keeping guns away from people who shouldn't have guns," he told KCRG-TV9 on a media call today.

The shooter at the Orlando nightclub, Omar Mateen, killed 49 people early Sunday morning, and wounded dozens more. Six of the survivors are still in critical condition at an Orlando hospital.

President Obama plans to travel to Orlando Thursday to meet with survivors and victims' families.

Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton has also spoken about the no fly issue this week.

While speaking in Pittsburgh Tuesday, Clinton said "We have reached the point where people can’t board planes with full bottles of shampoo – but people being watched by the FBI for suspected terrorist links can buy a gun with no questions asked. That is absurd."

Clinton went on to say "...if you’re too dangerous to get on a plane, you’re too dangerous to buy a gun."

@bobsal u1553115,
Of course the article forgets to mention that the ACLU and CAIR both agree with the NRA. People with no connections to terror have ended up on the No Fly list and not found out about it until they showed up at the airport to take their flight. An 8 year old boy? Sen. Ted Kennedy? How many other Americans are on the list that have zero connection to terrorism? You guys are big on due process and there is no due process to end up on either the No Fly list or the Terror Watch list.

False positives[edit]
A "false positive" occurs when a passenger who is not on the No Fly List has a name that matches or is similar to a name on the list. False positive passengers will not be allowed to board a flight unless they can differentiate themselves from the actual person on the list, usually by presenting ID showing their middle name or date of birth. In some cases, false positive passengers have been denied boarding or have missed flights because they could not easily prove that they were not the person on the No Fly List.[citation needed]

When an airline ticket is purchased, the reservation system uses software to compare the passenger's name against the No Fly List. If the name matches, or is similar to a name on the No Fly List, a restriction is placed in the reservation that prevents the passenger from being issued a boarding pass until the airline has determined whether or not he or she is the actual person whose name is on the No Fly List. Passengers are not told when a restriction has been placed on their reservation, and they normally do not find out that anything is unusual until they attempt to check in. "False positive" passengers cannot use Internet check-in or the automatic check-in kiosks in airports. Any attempt to use either check-in method will normally result in a message that the check-in cannot be completed and that the passenger needs to see a live check-in agent.[citation needed]

In order to be issued a boarding pass, "false positive" passengers must present identification that sufficiently differentiates them from the person on the No Fly List. This can include, but is not limited to, date and place of birth, middle name, citizenship, passport number, etc. Depending on the airline, this clearance can be done either electronically, with the check-in agent keying the information into the system, or a manual procedure where the agent telephones a centralized security office to obtain clearance. Once a "false positive" passenger has been cleared for a flight, the clearance will usually, but not always, apply to the remaining flights on that reservation, including the return. However, the next time this passenger purchases an airline ticket, he or she will have to be cleared all over again. If a passenger's identification is insufficient to differentiate that passenger from a name on the No-Fly List, the airline will refuse to issue a boarding pass and tell the passenger to contact the TSA.[citation needed]

Policies vary from airline to airline as to whether a check-in agent will tell passengers why they must always have additional steps performed when they check in, or why they are unable to check in via Internet, kiosk, or at curbside. In some cases, check-in agents will incorrectly tell passengers that they must be cleared because they are "on the No Fly List", when in fact they are simply a "false positive" (having the same name as someone on the No Fly List). False positive passengers who are ultimately issued boarding passes are not on the No Fly List. In the majority of instances, passengers are not told anything, and it is only through the repeated experience of needing to be cleared or being unable to use curbside, Internet or automatic check-in that they come to suspect that they are "false positives".[citation needed]

In an effort to reduce the number of false positives, DHS announced on April 28, 2008 that each airline will be permitted to create a system to verify and store a passenger's date of birth, to clear up watch list misidentifications. Passengers can voluntarily provide this information to the airline, which would have to be verified by presenting acceptable ID at the ticket counter. Once this data has been stored, travelers that were previously inconvenienced on every trip would be able to check in online or at remote kiosks.[27] It will be up to each individual airline to choose whether they wish to implement such a system.[citation needed]

If we are going to limit the ability to fly, and the ability to purchase a gun, why should we let people vote who are on the those lists? If they can't be trusted with those 2 Constitutional rights, why let them have any Rights?

It's really horrible how the Democrats hate our freedom. I'm glad the NRA is here to protect us.

in regard to the thread title

the Republicans seem to be doing their own turning away

http://www.gallup.com/poll/192716/dems-positive-reps-candidate-ideas.aspx

Quote:
Implications

Republicans' and Democrats' perceptions of whether presidential candidates have come up with good ideas for solving the most important problem facing the U.S. have shifted notably over the course of the past eight months. The percentage of Republicans saying candidates have come up with solid plans to address the nation's most pressing issue dropped about 20 percentage points from February to June, while the percentage of Democrats holding that view rose by about the same amount from January to June.

It's not entirely clear what has driven these shifts. Clearly, the fact that the number of Republican candidates has gone from many to one could be a factor. About three in 10 Republicans now view Trump unfavorably, and given that there are no other GOP candidates in the field, these individuals could be the ones who now say that no candidates have good ideas for solving the nation's top problem. More broadly, the June data could simply reflect the fact that Democrats are more satisfied with the ideas generated by Clinton (and perhaps Sanders) than Republicans are about ideas generated by Trump.
