@Blickers,
Executive orders don't apply to me because I'm not in the executive branch of the government!

@snood,
In the early 70's I was taking some college classes to help me in my job as an electrician at a junior collage. There were hundreds of veterans going to collage and collecting money from the government. Why am I bitching about this? The classes they were taking were basket weaving, chair seat repair and other nothing classes that couldent help anyone except monetarily.

We also need artists and dreamers.

If it turns in an actual career, yes we do, but at the tax payers expense, to just fritter away dreaming, no.

@Blickers,
Quote:
About one third of people presently working in the US, who are over 25 years old, have four year college degrees or more. About 40 percent of the people in the UK do. We are falling behind the advanced countries we are competing against in the area of educated workforce, and we shouldn't let that happen. We need to make college attainable for every student who can do college work, if they want it.

Not saying we should do it all at once, but we should start working toward it.

I agree, an educated workforce, not just taking random classes, the easiest they can get so they can spend the rest of the time out partying. It happens more often than not. A lot of these kids end up failing out which just means later they have to pay these student loans back with nothing to show for it in the end. I am not talking about those students who are dedicated and have an actual goal, but, at lest admit there are a lot of kids let off alone for the first time who seem to look at college as one long party. There are technical schools which teaches skills needed in today's world, there are a lot of alternatives to going four year to college with no real goal in sight.

Why such a heavy push on college degrees? Why not spend the money from the worthless college degrees on trade schools?

I strongly agree with this. Our college system is broken, and not just financially. Too much reliance on brick and mortar buildings; too much reliance on traditional degrees; classes are WAY too long for most students. Lots of problems that need to be addressed in addition to costs.

@TheCobbler,
You are making the mistake of trying to put people in a group. All are different from one another.

@RABEL222,
I agree to some extent but consider, the very word "people" that you used is also a "group" that separates us from our evolutionary relatives.

Humanity, society, mankind, civilization are you saying you never use groups?

Odds and evens, positives and negatives...

a + b + c = x
