Something that slays me: it takes the same exact materials (crossing weapons with tools , like swords for plowshares) to rebuilt the infrastructure as it does to fight a war. Why aren't we drafting for public service??????

@snood,
In the early 70's I was taking some college classes to help me in my job as an electrician at a junior collage. There were hundreds of veterans going to collage and collecting money from the government. Why am I bitching about this? The classes they were taking were basket weaving, chair seat repair and other nothing classes that couldent help anyone except monetarily.

If you really believe that, whats your beef? Why bother? Fixed primaries don't count but meaningless platforms do?

What in the world will Hillary and 'teh' Donald have to talk about in their debates? Small hands and disgusting lady parts?

Well.... I guess I could see your rationale for bitching about that, except-
my dad was one of the retired veterans who augmented his paltry pension and helped support a wife and 6 kids by taking those "nothing" classes and getting the pittance that the government paid him to go to school at night (while he drove a cab by day). It's hard to think the veterans are enriching themselves wrongly in this way when you consider that they(we) are underpaid and under pensioned -at least the enlisted, anyway.

@RABEL222,
I was one of those vets and I didn't get that at all. My checks were for $450/month while I attended class and and a lot of us had a wife and children and were working part time to balance our obligations. Just like snood's dad. I myself waited tables.

And what the hell is wrong with basket weaving, anyways? Doesn't the world need basket weavers? Between the Viet Vets, the basketball team and the football team, basket weaving had to be the most popular class on your campus.

@bobsal u1553115,
I don't remember what my vet check was for, but I know it helped a great deal, because I made it through community college to meet the requisites for the transfer to a four year college in California. As a Business major, I made my first "A" in Accounting 101, and found my career path. Did pretty good with it too, if I say so myself.

I still say as long as they were going they could have educated themselves. I grant that after what some went through they deserved the few perks they got.

@bobsal u1553115,
How many basket weaving jobs did you see in the paper. It was a waste of time and effort.

I don't know anything about VA classes in college so I'll be skipping that conversation. I do know a little something about teenagers and/kids in college in my area. A lot of them just mess around taking the easiest classes they can with little or not thought to which subjects are going to help them actually get a job when they get out. I mean if you are going to be teacher I can see learning a lot of different subjects. I just think technical schools or community college with classes tailored towards an actual career choice is more practical and cost effective and I can see having kids go to those kinds of institution's for free and paying for it by tax dollars. A lot kids who get students loans end up having to be in debt with little to show for it at the end and I can't see paying a lot more kids to do the same.

@TheCobbler,
We need racial bigot Trump as our president to prove racial bigotry is alive and well in the USA.

@cicerone imposter,
I'm not voting for Trump, but how do you figure he is a racial bigot? He doesn't want to give illegal immigrants a free pass to ignore our immigration laws and that makes him a bigot?
