@Joe Nation,
I'm sure we can work stuff out.

Back got wrecked by chairs in a restaurant in Auckland...don't ask me how or why! Decided after struggling a lot the last few days that I am having a complete rest day today.

I might add that so far our experiences in SF are extremely positive except that restaurant and cafe chairs are universally rock hard wood, metal or plastic and not moulded to the human body at all. I had an air cushion I carried with me...have now moved up to a down pillow. I have no idea how I am to carry it with me. Couldn't find a small cushion with any degree of softness at all. : (

Orange hair is slightly toned down.

After eating wonderfully healthy food all trip we succumbed to the Cheese Cake Factory in Macy's in Union Square....mainly because I was in so much pain I couldn't walk or stand any longer and it had upholstered booths. I had a Godiva Cheesecake and a super Margarita. Neither of us has felt the need for any further sustenance since then...and that was 18 hours ago.

Poor Dodi has been in a fruitless search for a SIM card or a cheap phone since we arrived with no luck. At home these things seem able to be purchased everywhere. Nor have we found a nearby bookshop. I hope I have a new kindle charger available on the 12th at Monterey.

(I didn't read it, just looked)

On cheap phones, have you tried drug stores? I seem to remember seeing them in Walgreen's here in Abq but I'm not sure. Just looked, there are CVSs and Walgreens in SF..

@ossobuco,
That (CVS) is where we picked up our cheap SIM cards on our last trip to NYC. As I recall, there were cheap phones at the Walgreens, but the CVS was closest to the SIHNYC.

@dlowan,
You can pick up Kindle chargers at Staples - there are several in SF - one within a couple of miles of the airport.

If you haven't already got one, consider something like a Mophie juice pack so you can recharge on the go.

@dlowan,
I wonder about a hotel consierge... like at the St. Francis - or maybe someone in the place you're staying would know a restaurant with comfy seats.
I tried looking up comfortable restaurants sf, restaurants with comfortable chairs, and some places I remember but no luck. Looked up the Tadich Grill (busy but good), look like bentwood chairs, can't tell if there are cushions.

Greens is a good place, I found it a delight the few times I went there, can't tell from the photo but it looks like there are stools with cushions at least. Might call them - I remember some couches for people waiting but that was about ten years ago.

@ossobuco,
Apologies for sounding like I'm trying to push you to Greens, especially on a spring weekend. I like to pick my own places myself, often by just walking by a place. Plus, I'm on the thrifty side. Take my comments as more that there must be SOME places in that whole good food crazed city that have cushions.

Fort Mason is a complex near the bay that has a bunch of buildings; if I remember, the restaurant has a lot of glass, at least facing the water and the bridge..

@ossobuco,
Ghirardelli Square named after Ghirardelli chocolates?

@tsarstepan,
Or they were named after it, if I remember, and maybe I don't. It was the site of the chocolate factory building.. now I think they're high end apartments or condos.

OK, here, wiki
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghirardelli_Chocolate_Company

I just read the wiki details. Well, it wasn't the first place. I was there with friends when the square was still a production center. That would have been in 1961, but the production business moved shortly after that.
