What's the subject in the following sentence?

There is a woman on the balcony.

Is it "There" or "woman"?

Thanks.

@tanguatlay,
"There is/are" and "It is" are called expletive constructions. The expletive is never the subject of the sentence. In your example, "woman" is the subject. More here: http://www.english-grammar-revolution.com/there-is.html
