Help, this dog will not stop whining, it rained the past two days, so I thought that she was getting stir crazy. However I took her out earlier today and ran her ten miles, she came home and did take about a three hour nap, but now she is whining again. She has eaten, she has been out to do her thing, all I hear are people saying shut up Cocoa. She does not seem to be in any pain, what should I look for, any thoughts?

@DNA Thumbs drive,
It's usually two or three things. Boredom, hunger or in heat.

It may be that she's eaten something that disagrees with her and has our equivalent of indigestion etc., but if it ceases like you say it has, it was probably one or more of the first three.

@Lordyaswas,
She got over her heat about 2 months ago, so it is not that, she actually has dry food in her bowl at all times, this seems to work as she is not overweight. Boredom is a good guess, but I also feel, that she might have gotten some chocolate somehow, as the day after this a dog will try to run out of it's skin, and could have a heart attack. Anyway, she did calm down again and finally went to sleep. We shall see later, if it happens again.

@DNA Thumbs drive,
This is past my knowledge - Is there a vet place you like near you? Or, me, I'd look at a place like UC Davis, to try to connect to people with experience in this, and call them.

We have a couple of veterinarian posters, but they don't post often. Where are you, (not to be nosy, just a general area). Plus some other people with experience, but they would need to see the thread.

@ossobuco,
I have a good idea what the problem is, as it started two weeks ago after I took her to the dog park, and bike riding on the same day. She came home and passed out for two, days or so, then she woke up and started whining. It's winter here, dark before I get home from work, and I can not run her 5 to 10 miles a day, but I believe that she wants this, and maybe even needs it. She is too healthy to be sick, but we mere humans can't run that far, that often.

@DNA Thumbs drive,
From a dog breed website....."Exercise is of paramount importance for these tireless, energetic animals. They are more than a match for even the most active family and they should not be taken on as family pets unless they can be guaranteed plenty of vigorous exercise. They need to be taken on a daily, brisk, long walk, jog or run alongside you when you bicycle. If under-exercised, this breed can become restless and destructive...."

My suggestion would be to find some quick and effective way to get her running. You're right in that Pointers need to be worn out at least twice a week, with long walks on days in between.

OK.....
Does she go for a tennis ball?
Do you have a reasonable size back garden?
Is it escape proof?
Is anyone available during the day to chuck a ball for her? Take her for a good, long walk?

There must be a way somehow to get her up and around each day.

My original boredom thought is what is probably making her whine.
