You could do it every day if you worked from home, ehBeth. BTW, I like to wear my tall-heeled boots at home because there's not a lot of walking involved. These boots aren't made for walkin'...

Why, littlek? (I'm *this* close to buying a skirt there.)

Half-off, but still around 40-50 so if you mean they're badly made I won't.

I linked to it a while back, black corduroy with white appliques, purty purty purty.

Also thinking of this one. (Free People from Urban Outfitters -- I always useta get Athropologie stuff at UO, so thought I'd check there and see what's up):

http://www.urbanoutfitters.com/images/us/local/products/productsall/p107473b.jpg

It's fine-wale corduroy.

What I want is a skirt that is:

- Warmish
- Just below knee length
- Interesting -- not a solid color unless it's a really cool color or cut
- Not too expensive (sale is best)

Looked at gap, banana republic, old navy, jjill, anthropologie, UO, free people, max studio, sierra trading post and nordstrom's so far. Nothing has been an absolute slam dunk -- the ones I like the most are the most expensive, etc. Any other suggestions for where to look?

Not really, Soz. I try to stay away from Gap, Old Navy, UO for political reasons. But, I do succumb and buy Old Navy because it's dirt cheap and I'm perpetually broke. I browse Sierra Trading Post a lot, but it's an effort.

I'm this close to just making exactly what I want, the browsing has certainly given me ideas anyway. I can still use clothes money on the fabric.

If you can make it, if you have the skill and the time - why not?

Don't you have any local stores or chains?

Yep, but shopping for clothes for me with sozlet is always a giant pain. I can't talk to her while I look, so I'm either not looking (defeats purpose) or not talking to her (grumpy girl.)

And I still haven't found a great local place, the ones I've ventured into so far have been WAY expensive. If there were one specific place I knew would have good stuff I'd make E.G. watch her and go. But I have like 2 hours a week max these days of time to do what I want w/o kid, and don't want to waste it on fruitless searches at expensive places.

So online shopping works better if I can do it.

But there is a local fabric store that has some absolutely gorgeous stuff -- it's for home decoration, upholstery pillows curtains and such, but bee-you-ti-ful and local.

OK, thassit. Gonna get a good pattern and some kick-ass fabric and make just what I want for the price of the cheaper end of what I've been looking at.

(The time to make it part is tricky, depends how patient sozlet is while I do it.)

Sure!

Oh btw never got to what I'm wearing today -- tall black leather boots, black tights, black corduroy knee-length skirt, black long-sleeved t, extremely cool vintage green lambswool sweater lined in darker green silk and with that same silk covered buttons, and embroidered with lighter green, darker green, and bronze beetles. Dangly silver dragonfly earrings, high poofity ponytail.

I've been trying to stake out a reasonable middle ground between stay-at-home mom shlubbiness and career woman polish for a while, this is one of the better attempts. LOVE this sweater, it's delicate though (as in not machine-washable anyway) so have only started wearing it again recently (had it about 7 years). I should be looking at vintage shops not online for cool stuff... duh... Exclamation
