Q. Do you believe there is anything inherently evil in the way some practice Islam that stands in the way of the pursuit of democracy and freedom?

A. "I think what we're dealing with are people-extreme, radical people-who've got a deep desire to spread an ideology that is anti-women, anti-free thought, anti- art and science, you know, that couch their language in religious terms. But that doesn't make them religious people. I think they conveniently use religion to kill. The religion I know is not one that encourages killing. I think that they want to drive us out of parts of the world so they're better able to have a base from which to operate. I think it's very much more like an … "ism" than a group with territorial ambition." GW Bush

Let's try a little deconstruction:

Radical people who've got a deep desire to spread an ideology
such as the neoconservative ideologues who shape your foreign policy and the fundie Christians who are your cultural base?

anti-women
Like denying them the right to make reproductive decisions?

anti-free thought

Attacking and smearing anyone who publicly questions GW Bush policies?

anti- art and science

Art is OK as long as it conforms to your cultural world view;
scientific results are to be manipulated or redacted to conform to GW Bush policy.

"couch their language in religious terms"

GW Bush invokes God and uses religious phraseology in his speeches.

"I think they conveniently use religion to kill."

GW Bush conveniently uses religion to gain political power; how many people has he killed so far?

"I think that they want to drive us out of parts of the world so they're better able to have a base from which to operate."

While GW bush has invaded two sovereign countries.

"I think it's very much more like an -"ism" than a group with territorial ambition."

Bush-ism is carefully crafted propaganda designed to make the American people believe that territorial ambition is actually the spreading of freedom

I am no Bush fan, but to insinuate that he is mentally ill is pure conjecture and not helpful to your argument here. Other than that, you raise some interesting analogies.

I am just getting started.

"The fundamental question is, did Saddam Hussein have a weapons program? And the answer is, absolutely. And we gave him a chance to allow inspectors in, and he wouldn't let them in. And therefore, after a reasonable request, we decided to remove him from power, along with other nations, so as to make sure he was not a threat to the United States and our friends and allies in the region." GW Bush

This statement is worth reading carefully. The president of the United States has stated, in a public forum, that he invaded Iraq because Saddam Hussein would not allow weapons inspectors back into his country. Does the Pres. have ADD or Dementia? Hans Blix and his team were real and they were in Iraq inspecting when the Pres. declared war.

I agree although I would give the benefit of the doubt that Radikal is being flippantly tongue-in-cheek. I would not take someone as seriously unless I knew they weren't serious about such a statement. You'll find a lot of A2Kers right, left, conservative or liberal who don't think Bush is any kind a mental giant and should probably not speak up unless spoken to or has had something written for him. He's about as crazy as a fox.

Personally, I just think he's not too bright, and is basically a puppet of his own people, who have agendas of their own. As for mental problems, my bet is on 'daddy issues.'

George Bush Medical Bombshell: Brain Damage Drama
by CONSPIRACY PLANET

Reports by a White House insider, published on TBRNews.org reveal that George W. Bush is suffering from unspecified medical problems, characterized by "seizures" or "ministrokes," possibly due to so-called cocaine stroke.

A former cocaine addict, Bush has exhibited increasingly bizarre behavior in recent years, indicative of brain damage (See: http://www.drugabuse.gov/NIDA_Notes/NNVol13N3/Cocaine.html)

Bush's mental impairment is held in check by his handler Karl Rove and Dick Cheney has become the defacto president of the United States, according to the insider's report.

Bush's performance at his latest press conference was questioned due to his anomie, characteristic of his being under heavy medication.

Also Bush's unexplained "pretzel" dive and the resulting bruise on his face several years ago are indicative of brain damage.

Medical experts suggest that mental impairment may also be a sign of HIV infection, measurable even from the earliest stages of the disease. Usually referred to as 'AIDS Dementia' it is recognized as fogetfulness and confusion. (http://www.thebody.com/Forums/AIDS/Mental/Archive/Reactions/Q8505.html

The report from TBR News.org follows in full --

Note: The following material is from a reporter with access to the White House and Presidential press briefings. Some of this material has surfaced before but only in small segments. If any of this is true and not the product of an unhappy person, we are all in serious trouble. Editor TBRNews.org

"Vice President Cheney is the de facto President of the United States. When he arrives at the White House for one of his "briefings" of the President, all employees are cleared from the West Wing and especially from the Presidential office suites.

Cheney arrives in an escorted armored limousine surrounded by his own personal, heavily armed bodyguard and is always shown directly into the President's office. It is reliably reported by [redacted] that Bush has a thick pad of lined, yellow note paper on his desk, placed there by [redacted] just before the Vice President arrives."

"After Cheney's departure, the notes taken by the President are transcribed by [redacted] and prepared as talking points for the President..."

"At some time in the past, according to both [redacted] and [redacted] the President suffered what one of his aides called "a very minor seizure" and as a result of this, the President has a very difficult time following any unscripted conversations. For this reason, his staff carefully and aggressively protect the President from "unexpected" questions that he is not capable of answering."

"The President takes oral medication at least twice a day according to [redacted] because of an unspecified "indisposition' and this subject is strictly off limits for any casual staff conversation."

"At one point during a staff conference, the President stood up and began to speak in an unknown language. Mr. Rove was able to stop the President and get him to resume his seat. It was reported by [redacted] that for a period of time (about fifteen minutes) after this incident, the President appeared to be 'somewhat confused and very inarticulate.'"

"White House staff members report that they rarely see the President during work hours and that when they do, he is generally accompanied by Mr. Rove and almost never either looks at or speaks to members of the staff. He does not appear to recognize many of the staff members and almost all contact with these individuals are carried out by his close aides, especially by Mr. Rove."

"Bush holds as few meetings with the public, including the press, as possible. We get reams of official papers informing us of this or that new directive. Those of us who have an inside track with the staff are taken to dinner and given the questions to ask Bush. These are questions he has been thoroughly briefed on and has memorized the answers for. Anyone who persists in pushing the envelope gets a rocket from the Rove people and does not get invited back."

"Most of the staff are young, dedicated, almost fanatical, and very, very Christian. The Ten Commandments are in each and every office with nice pictures of Jesus accompanying them. I have chatted up a few of these bright-faced kids and find out that they Love Jesus, Hate Gays, Abortionists, Moslems, Blacks, Catholics, some Jews, all Democrats, Liberals, Hindus, Chinese, Frenchmen, Germans, and now, Spaniards.

"There are daily parades of born-agains into the White House, all chanting the praises of the Lord and Bush, in that order of course. Most of them want all abortionists hung along with gays (the Beltway and the Pentagon would be empty) and godless Muslims and Buddhists. Orwell would have loved this place! Yesterday [redacted] told me in strict confidence of course, that if Diebold didn't reelect George, the Lord would. They all wear miniature US flags on their clothes but under the lapels they have "hidden tokens of the True Faith" and they flip their lapels with knowing smiles when they meet another True Believer.

Next
Read Bob Woodward from his lastest book where he states that the Pres. talked in an unknown lanuage for about 5 minutes then stared blankly for a few more minutes.

This Pres. is not only a shallow, simpleton but he has a mental disorder.

Radikal- Are you a neuropsychiatrist who has examined Bush? IMO, people have a perfect right to criticize his performance as a president, but you really have no way of knowing what his mental status is.

I think that you are shooting yourself in the foot. By making your way out, blanket statements, without a modicum of proof, the credibility about ANYTHING that you say becomes suspect!

You are using a bad strategy.

First, the claim you make (even if made in the manner of 'look, this is possible') really doesn't have the sort of evidence needed to make the claim seem other than partisan over-the-top smear.

As you'll see in reading the Salon piece below, that is a strategy which brings us to the level of Coulter et al. Progressives are going to be deserving of trust to the degree that we are careful with facts, that we correct ourselves publicly when shown to be in error, and that we avoid innuendo and unsubstantiated negatives in what we say.

Quote:
Across the board, conservatives deemed Gore's message the treasonous rantings of a mentally ill man. The latest barrage is strikingly similar to a "Gore is nuts" tactic used during the 2000 presidential campaign -- a coordinated assault detailed by ex-right-winger turned media watchdog David Brock in his new book "The Republican Noise Machine: Right-Wing Media and How It Corrupts Democracy." The current roster of high-profile pundits who have mobilized to tear down Gore -- a political figure many of them declare irrelevant but whom they also seem to regard as a serious threat -- is robust enough that you don't so much wonder whether tagging Gore "insane" was a talking point pushed by Bush operatives, as marvel at how quickly they were able to spread the message.

Anyone can put up a Website and begin posting all sorts of conspiracy theories -- notice this one is typical in that there is no description of the site, who is behind it and what credentials they have. They appear to be surfing the interent cutting and pasting articles and I wouldn't doubt without permission. Many of these sites have been sued for copyright violations but more just keep popping up.

I applaud my fellow liberals!

Helping each other learn good argumentative strategy is key to getting the message across effectively.

Radikal, it's not even that I disagree with you, it's just that without using a more neutral style, it's very possible to come off as shrill. You lose your target audience right off the bat.

Solid, careful argumentative structure, built up from base principals with a good logical basis, is the key to an effective persuasive essay.

It's possible to agree with points being made but having the basic credibility thrashed in backing it up with dubious and unconfirmed sources. It's something like "1984" when four fingers are held up and one is told to see five.

Oh look, I found more "evidence" to support this claim: http://poweredbychrist.homestead.com/files/bush/rituals.htm Ahem, as Lightwizard pointed out, anyone can put up a website these days, and post whatever the heck they want. That hardly makes it "truth".

The stammering and awkward responses in yesterday's press conference does reveal a man who is inarticulate in public speaking but it doesn't reveal someone who is mentally ill. Perhaps it was a clone? Or a double? The Bush aper on Leno is quite good.
