I'm afraid to ask the difference between horizontal and vertical stripes on the aprons but clearly between the ladies they go both ways.

Vertical means already mated, horizontal means ready to mate, even with males wearing only one stripe.
Booth 5 man has already noticed this, hence the look of animal anticipation.

Actually, in the very old days (and still in the Black Forest) Ladies wore straw hats with wool pompons on top. The red pompon hat suggested the lady was available, the black (thus more dim) pompons were for the married women.
