When you're down, what music lifts you back up?

I often go back to children's songs or novelty songs when I need a lift.

Given the snow that's falling here, and Hans Christian Andersen's birthday today, I started singing

Wonderful, wonderful Copenhagen
Friendly old girl of a town
'Neath her tavern light
On this merry night
Let us clink and drink one down
To wonderful, wonderful Copenhagen
Salty old queen of the sea
Once I sailed away
But I'm home today
Singing Copenhagen, wonderful, wonderful
Copenhagen for me.

I sailed up the Skagerrak
And sailed down the Kattegat
Through the harbor and up to the quay
And there she stands waiting for me
With a welcome so warm and so gay
Wonderful, wonderful Copenhagen

Wonderful, wonderful Copenhagen
Friendly old girl of a town
'Neath her tavern light
On this merry night
Let us clink and drink one down
To wonderful, wonderful Copenhagen
Salty old queen of the sea
Once I sailed away
But I'm home today
Singing Copenhagen, wonderful, wonderful
Copenhagen for me.

I'm not laughing..."I Want It That Way" is a GREAT pop song

Tell me why
Ain't nothin' but a heartache
Tell me why
Ain't nothin but a mistake
Tell me why
I never wanna hear you say
(Don't wanna hear you say it)
I want it that way
I want it that way

I have to say "Come fly with me" by Frank Sinatra:
Come fly with me, let's fly let's fly away
If you can use, some exotic booze
There's a bar in far bombay
Come fly with me, we'll fly we'll fly away

Come fly with me, let's float down to peru
In lama land, there's a one man band
And he'll toot his flute for you
Come fly with me, we'll float down in the blue

Once I get you up there, where the air is rarefied
We'll just glide, starry eyed
Once I get you up there, I'll be holding you so near
You may here, angels cheer - because were together

Weather wise it's such a lovely day
You just say the words, and we'll beat the birds
Down to acapulco bay
It's perfect, for a flying honeymoon - they say
Come fly with me, we'll fly we'll fly away

Joy Division - Day of the Lords

This is the room, the start of it all,
No portrait so fine, only sheets on the wall,
I've seen the nights, filled with bloodsport and pain,
And the bodies obtained, the bodies obtained.

Where will it end? Where will it end?

These are your friends from childhood, through youth,
Who goaded you on, demanded more proof,
Withdrawal pain is hard, it can do you right in,
So distorted and thin, distorted and thin.

This is the car at the edge of the road,
There's nothing disturbed, all the windows are closed,
I guess you were right, when we talked in the heat,
There's no room for the weak, no room for the weak,

Where will it end? Where will it end?

This is the room, the start of it all,
Through childhood, thorugh youth, I remember it all,
Oh, I've seen the nights filled with bloodsport and pain.
And the bodies obtained, the bodies obtained, the bodies obtained.

Where will it end? Where will it end?

whenever i'm down i always put on music by Darren Hayes or Savage Garden...so far ive found no other artist who can match the power Darrens voice has to bring me back into the Light.
Savage Gardens Crash and Burn is great
Quote:
let me be the one you call
if you jump i will break your fall
lift you up and fly away with you into the night
if you need to fall apart
i can mend a broken heart
if you need to crash the crash and burn youre not alone

and atm i listen to Darren Hayes' Zero quite alot too, which is beautiful
Quote:
ZERO

So welcome to the world
Got so much I can tell you baby
So many lessons to learn
Let me tell you I've heard
Because people can be cruel
And the world is full of rules
That's when you need to call me
When the struggle gets you down
And there's no one else around
That's when you need to call me
Oh you'll be strong, you hold on
You will get through it
And when you can't do it
I'll make you better than that
Don't be scared, sing your song
Bring your soul to it
And when you're through with it
I know you're better than that
I still believe
That world is a good place baby
For every vulture and thief
Kindness in every stranger
When it's slipping through your hands
When you do not understand
That's when you need to call me
When you cannot carry on
When you feel like hope is gone
That's when you can call me
Oh you'll be strong, you hold on
You will get through it
And when you can't do it
I'll make you better than that
Don't be scared, sing your song
Bring your soul to it
And when you're through with it
I know you're better than that
Welcome to the world
Got so much I can tell you baby
So many lessons to learn
Let me tell you I've heard
The road is long, so just hang on
It's gonna be alright
I'll make you better than that
The road is long, so keep your faith
When your zero has come
It's gonna be alright
(And you'll be judged
on who you love the color of your skin)
The road is long, just hang on
It's gonna be alright
Oh you'll be strong, you hold on
You will get through it
And when you can't do it
I'll make you better than that
Don't be scared, sing your song
Bring your soul to it
And when you're through with it
I know you're better than that
Oh you'll be strong, you hold on
You will get through it
And when you can't do it
I'll make you better than that
Don't be scared, sing your song
Bring your soul to it
And when you're through with it
I know you're better than that
It's gonna be alright

also Darrens song Random Blinking Light never fails to give me a glimmer of hope.

Even though my husband makes fun of me for it, I listen to Hootie and the Blowfish when I'm feeling down. I always feel immediately better afterwards. So much that we have coined a phrase to explain my better moods. "Behold the power of Hootie!"
