This should clearly be held against the law -- this type of marketing using charity is almost rampant. They still make a profit they retain or, in this case, they retain all of it for "services." Delay is a saavy businessman who knows all the tricks on how to dupe the "customer" out of their money.

Of note is that by far the bulk of Bush the Younger's already ammassed, and staggeringly considerable, and inexorably growing, resources remain in the bank, while the contenders all have spent deeply of their own available funds. How much has been raised is insignificant in view of how much remains available to be spent. All said and done, the Dems could find themselves having to deal with an opponent possesed of something on the order of a Quarter Billion Dollars on-hand when the real fight begins. George Soros indisputably is the most important Democrat in the nation, now.

Interesting, to note how, when it concerns Dean's millions, someone like Timber will, seemingly sincerely, share in Kerry's "heartfelt dismay", cynically noting that, "As usual, principle is subordinated to Principal when it comes to finance" -

but when it concerns Bush Jr's prospective Quarter Billion, he is all awed and impressed at the Leader's prowess in amassing those "staggeringly considerable, and inexorably growing" mountains of funding.

Reminds me of those trick novelty cards - you look at it one way, you see a smiley face, you look at it from the other side, he's crying ...

Send us some of yours and we'll bottle it up and give it a try. We've enough humor to entertain the notion that anyone would want it.

Humor is also in the eye of the beholder.

If I've given any impression that I do not feel that campaign financing is in serious need of reform, regardless of Party, I have been remiss. It is a matter of little wonder and great dismay to me that election-by-election, politics becomes ever more a cubic dollars contest. I am quite unhappy that Principal trumps Principle. Then again, the argument is ancient.

Tart, while I'm disgusted by such ploys, I note (and so does the article you cite) that DeLay has long championed his own fully acreditted and well-regarded charitable foundation, which is devoted to children's issues and which does comply with or exceed all legal requirements of such institutions. The latest gambit is smarmy to be sure, but I would reserve final judgement pending actual disclosure of the acccounting and disbursement of associated funds, pursuant to applicable law. Good taste is not a notable trait of politicians, charitable or otherwise.

Swords into plowshares

Whoever wins it would appear that the American people will not.

Your statement accompanying the link notwithstanding, do you agree that Dean is the most likely to be running against Bush?

IMHO, it has to be either Dean or Clark at this point...but, hey, that's just me.

I am concerned you are correct; that is, if we're not at 'Homeland Security Alert Level 5' and elections are cancelled altogether. Evil or Very Mad

Regardless of what the status is at election time the election will not be cancelled. They were not during WW2 and they will not be sixty years later in 04.

Agreed, au1929 ... just a weak attempt @ humor.

Besides, what with Diebold all over the place, who needs a cancellation? (another weak attempt @ humor  )

Wow. Good article.

Just when you've finally come to settle on a preference, something comes along and makes you rethink all over again.

Hey - a new participant in the thread - welcome, Suzette.

Welcome, Suzette ... glad you're here. Just a word of advice; the Political Threads here on A2K can be awfully political.

Au, that was a good article. It did posit one assumption with which I don't agree, however; that Bush the Younger does not realize this is a deeply and evenly divided nation. I feel the opposite is true, and I feel strongly that his efforts to lessen that divide are bearing fruit, while the Democrat efforts to deepen and exploit it serve merely to further marginalize their party and their argument. I would posit the trending of election reults over the past decade bear me out.

(edited when I realized "Divide" had been typed with an incorrect tally of "89"s Embarrassed should use spellcheck ... or at least preview Rolling Eyes )
