This will be the dilemma of the new century for historians.

My feelings exactly. Well said!

Except for one thing, Cicerone, I agree with you. I just would prefer to see Yale slandered for Bush's education, not Harvard!! (Okay, he went to the B-School at Harvard, but that's across the river and is considered to be not-exactly-the-real-Harvard...)

Just scanned this thread after a two week hiatus from ATK. Pleased to discover that Blatham has returned. Sadly the vacation did not blunt his antipathy to the virtues of the current Republican Administration.

Wesley Clark is supposed to decide if he's in the hunt by the end of next week, according to CNN.

Predictions, anyone?

Italgato, Bush's mandate of "leave no child behind" is meaningless without the funding to back it up. Vouchers? I don't think that will help the underfunding of schools in this country. It just reallocates the money from one destressed school to the next.

PDiddie -- a brief glance at the Austin American-Statesman today revealed an interesting letter from a former military colleague of Clark's giving him what looked like a mixed review. I just tried to get it for you, but the damn AAS (which should be spelled differently, I always thought) doesn't put its letters to the editor online. If you see a copy floating around down there, you might want to take a look. Something about competence but hubris.

If you're not watching the candidates debate (on FOX right now) you're missing some real Bush-whipping. Surprised

They were all pathetic and smirky, except for Sharpton, who has sharpened his Jesse-Jackson-like rhymes and grammatically fun put downs, and Edwards, who spent all night laughing at Sharpton. Moseley-Braun was a wash--no foul, no add. Lieberman was hated by that crowd, and even worse than that--really sounded horrible. He could have been reciting the Declaration or Lotto numbers, and no one would have cared much. Poor thing. He's got a terrible voice.

Kerry was chicken of Dean. Dean sounded empty--just a lot of Bush Go Home Rhetoric.

Graham nailed his coffin closed tonight. Horrible performance, empty rhetoric. Stilted, robotic... uncharacteristic for him. Maybe he was ill...or couldn't recover from a rough heckling from the audience. Anyway--nothing new.

Sharpton v Bush?

Why don't you righties find another drum to beat?

See, I thought all of 'em stripped the bark right off the Shrub--when they could get in a word around the Larouche disruptors.

When has anyone ever seen a debate with commercial breaks?

I suppose FOX needed the extra money to pay the screamers in the audience.

A disgraceful effort by FOX, Brit Hume, Juan Williams and the wrap-up crew of right wing freaks. Flipped around looking for post-debate chat and found MSNBC talking about Kobe Bryant and Larry King feeling up Dan Rather. Talk about two guys on life support...

An excellent smack-down by all nine, any of whom would be a better President than this current abortion. Including Al Sharpton.

I was reading the "other" site, the one where posters threaten to kill each other, Wink, and found that there, all the tighty righties loved Lieberman. They think that if he weren't a Democrat, and the "most honest president ever (I kid you not, someone actually wrote that)" weren't already in office, they would vote for him. Rolling Eyes

Well, listen and read the analysis of the Debate. I didn't skew the results. Everybody I've heard (news reporters, pundits) so far saw the same thing I did.

Nobody is questioning Sharpton's win, Kerry's chicken-heartedness, Dean's lackluster, Lieberman's unpopularity... The big news still seems to be will Hillary come in and make something of the field.

So, FOX paid the LaRouchies.... ? Yep. Very Happy

Sorry, CI -got a little carried away.

Strange thing on CNN tonight. Interviews with several of the troops in Iraq. Getting outspoken about Rumsfeld, more careful about Bush with wide grins. First I've seen that so publicly.

One of the interesting things that happened with polls in general is that everyday they were presented to Karl Rove. That's when every one was showing high figures. When all that started going down, it became obvious through the lessening exposure of the pro polls. It's the trends that are important.

Political things to look at. Pennsylvania has a repub senator named Arlen Specter. Far too liberal for the Repub party. So the party put up a PA rep caled Patrick Toomby, and really touted him. Toomby has been a very loyal repub rep, and . But, what happened is they took a look at the two and decided the seat was safer with Specter. So they pulled all support away from Toomby, and further, demanded return about $100,000 in funding to the party.

Things like this are happening all over the country. The repubs are beinning to take another look at those they thought were sure things. And more senators and reps ave decided not to run - like Huckabee in Arkansas.

Sharpton acquitted himself well, particularly in his reaction to the disruptors. If the media event had a star, it was old Al, but it was showmanship and standup-comic timing, not class. Kerry came in hurt, and left crippled. Dean came in on top and left the same way ... still the Dem the rest of the Dems need to beat. Lieberman bolstered his looser personna, and the rest just muddled about in place ... except maybe Graham, who should prolly start workin' full time on his memoirs. So who won? I'd give the win to Clarke ... he was unsullied by any of the silliness.
