@Patches,
So why would a loving God apply infinite punishment to a finite sin?
Especially since the soul is mortal?
Quote:
For the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing at all, nor do they have any more reward, because all memory of them is forgotten. 6 Also, their love and their hate and their jealousy have already perished, and they no longer have any share in what is done under the sun. (Ecclesiastes 9: 5,6)

@neologist,
God wants to save us, not punish us. If you believe in His Son, there is no punishment.

@Frank Apisa,
Perhaps they would have obeyed simply out of love or simple gratitude. Perhaps they were intelligent enough to understand that they would die.
Even Patches, as misguided as he is, understands that, Frank

That is the point of the story...the god did not want them to have the knowledge or right and wrong.
It was the knowledge of good and bad, Frank.
Perhaps they did not need to have the knowledge of good and bad, since their perfect conscience would have been sufficient. After 6000+/- years of mankind's ruminating over good/bad, we don't seem to have ever gotten it right.

@neologist,
They are judged based on their deeds in their lifetimes.

@Patches,
If so, I'm sure you'll rot in hell, in that large circle of bible thumpers and other proselytizers.

You see. That's where you and he are both wrong.
There is no such hell in which to rot.

@neologist,
You are very wrong too.

I said "if so" and I used hell as a metaphor for Patches' deeds.

I don't believe any religious crap.

That is nonsense.

Your god denied them the knowledge of what was right and what was wrong...what was good and what was evil.

Then your god punished them for doing something it considered wrong and evil.

The story makes no sense...and even you should be able to see that.

It is a story obviously concocted by humans to explain something...and they did a horrible job of concocting the story.

THE COUPLE HAD NO WAY OF KNOWING RIGHT FROM WRONG. That is an integral part of the story.

New pic since so many people commented on the redness of the other one.

That is me...no photoshopping. Nancy is peeking in behind me. The picture is at least five years old...and I have aged. I noticed how much younger Tak (ci) looked than I when we met in New York...and it made me want to drink more booze.

I'll post a picture of her in a bit.

@timur,
Didn't really think so. Just had to say it to provoke patches into research.
I can understand why a non believer would not know much about the bible.
But what is amazing is that unbelievers often know more more than the babbling believers.

Carry on.

@Patches,
Quote:
It is man who has failed God by giving into temptation.

This would be suggesting that Gods original purpose of the Earth could be thwarted by the devils tactics. Can God's purpose return to him unfulfilled? Isaiah 55:11.

Quote:
The tree of life is now considered to be in heaven. To be with God is to be part of the tree of life.
Considered by who? could you provide scriptural support?

If man had not succumbed to his desire to be like God, could he have lived forever?

and Frank old friend, If I tell you that if you eat my last donut, I'm gonna rake my keys down the side of your car, I may have not have told you that it is wrong to eat it, but I'm pretty sure you will understand a) what will happen if you do, and b) I will not be happy if you do. Adam and Eve knew the consequences of their actions. I would assert that knowledge of what is good or bad is insignificant in the face of an established consequence.
