And (sputter, sputter), Allah be cursed, his middle name is Hussein. He is the devil personified.

I suppose Gene Wilder made a decent enough fist of playing Willy Wonka, but I just heard that Roald Dahl's choice was Spike Milligan. Now I feel sad because of what might have been. Spike Milligan was a comedy genius.
A U.S. Navy manual on customs and courtesies, cited by the Daily Caller, says saluting in general is “the most important of all military courtesies.”
“The salute formally recognizes the officer as a military superior, and returning the salute expresses the officer’s thanks for the junior’s support,” the manual reads.
It recommends not saluting when one is “carrying articles with both hands or being otherwise so occupied as to make saluting impractical.”
But Obama has previously passed by a Marine without saluting — and that got noticed as well.
But officers out of uniform never salute, although service members will salute them if they recognize them as superior officers. I've always thought it unusual for the President to salute because he's always in mufti.
I didn't get the chance to know the character before the film was made, so I never thought of anyone else in the role until I heard about who Dahl wanted.
I had to look him up, I don't know enough about him to judge, (him or the joke.)
This is Spike at his best.

@engineer,
I wouldn't know either way. In any case, some would found something to say if he didn't give them something.

@blueveinedthrobber,
I agree completely with the sentiment expressed in the Gene Wilder poster...
...BUT...
...Obama should have passed on that salute with the coffee cup.
I don't think any president saluted back when being saluted before the heroic Ronald Reagan began the practice...which I personally consider ill-advised and fruity looking.
Saluting is a very special thing...and it should be reserved for the military in uniform. (Although the guard at the East Orange VA used to come to attention and salute every car that entered the lot...and almost every vet returned the salute. I know I did.)
