For BBB's friends on A2K

Mom is having her left knee replaced on Monday, the 15th. Surgery will be harder on her this time, but is expected to go well. She is expected to be in the hospital for 4 to 5 days and then will be moved to rehab for at least a week, more likely two.

I'll keep you updated.

@Butrflynet,
knees are slow. I hd to have my left one repaired from an explosion wound, I was in my tenties t the time and it took me over 2 years to be walking well. Now tht Im older, the kricks and pqins are all returning.

Lets hope BBB can quickly recover to get her moving because , use of the limb is its own cure

@farmerman,
She will be back on Coumadin for awhile post-surgery so I'll be rereading your topics on the subject. Learned a lot the last time.

I think the hardest part of her recovery is going to be her dementia and not remembering things she's not to do or needs to do in order to heal properly. The rehab hospital will have their work cut out for them. We're going to have a few home health nurses in to help with that once she is back home.

She will have one of those CPM machines that will exercise her knee whether she wants it or not. Wink

@Butrflynet,
Eww. I didn't think of rehab hospitals. Albuquerque Heights Rehab etc. made a horrible impression on me. It mostly looked like a warehouse, and rehab was a very seldom affair. I toured the Alzheimer's facility at St. Catherine's, which also has a rehab section. It was understaffed and smelled bad. I did not see the rehab section. Even in a big city like Albuquerque, there isn't a lot of choice, but look them over as far in advance as possible.

@Butrflynet,
I will be thinking of my dear Bumblebee friend in the weeks ahead. Thanks for letting us know.

I hope the rehab hospital time means you'll get a bit of Butrflynet time.

@roger,
She is going to go to Kaseman. They know her there, and she knows the physical therapists, from stays after her other knee and hip surgeries.

@Butrflynet,
Fantastic. Never heard of it, but bound to be better than the ones I've seen. If the need ever arises, I'll get in touch with you right away.

In the old days, BBB and I agreed on this and that and later we disagreed.
There is a lot of history, which I will leave for Diane to tell.

Diane is, first of all, nice.

Which is probably smart.

Of course I care. I do personally know her. I admire her highly.

I'm more interested in what she is thinking.

Well, butterfly lady, I have been where BBB has been and can no longer do the boogie woogie, but maybe Lu can when all is well.

Here's a musical thought for her:

Sending positive vibes from across the pond. bbb used to post some really interesting finds here in days gone by, and is certainly one of the family.

Wishing her a speedy recovery.

Your mom is certainly a tough, feisty old girl, and I wish her well from her old digs in Alameda CA. I've had a knee replacement and learned that the effort put into the physical therapy after the surgery pays off handsomely in mobility later on. BBB and I don't agree on much, and are similarly stubborn about it. I hope she recovers swiftly and well. You are both in my prayers.
