While Akai Gurley was dying in a darkened stairwell at a Brooklyn housing development, the cop who fired the fatal bullet was texting his union representative, sources told the Daily News.

Right after rookie cop Peter Liang discharged a single bullet that struck Gurley, 28, he and his partner Shaun Landau were incommunicado for more than six and a half minutes, sources said Thursday.

In the critical moments after the Nov. 20 shooting, the cops’ commanding officer and an emergency operator — responding to a 911 call from a neighbor and knowing the duo was in the area — tried to reach them in vain, sources said.

“That’s showing negligence,” said a law enforcement source of the pair’s decision to text their union rep before making a radio call for help.

19 Action News has obtained new video of a controversial police chase in November, that ended with officers, shooting and killing a driver and his passenger.

The video is raising new questions about why so many police cars joined that chase.

The scene was captured by RTA cameras.

The dramatic video shows dozens of police cars all trying to stop one driver. In one clip, the line of police cars goes on nearly a minute and a half.

The chase went on for nearly 25 minutes.

We showed the video to an uncle of the passenger killed. "That's outrageous. Ludicrous to think they had all those cars chasing one car," said Walter Jackson.

It began when an officer downtown saw a speeding car and said he heard a shot.

It ended in East Cleveland.

13 officers fired 137 shots killing the driver and passenger. Malissa Williams was shot 24 times and Timothy Russell was hit 23 times.

No gun was ever found with the suspects.

State agents are investigating.

Two days after an unarmed Black man was killed by a White police officer in Phoenix at the height of national unrest over racially charged incidents, a grieving family wants to redirect the dialogue.

Rumain Brisbon's mother and girlfriend don't want the conversation about his death to center on race. Nora Brisbon, who is black, and Dana Klinger, who is white, want the conversation to be about the son, boyfriend and father they loved.

"This had nothing to do with race," Nora Brisbon said. "This is about Rumain and the wrong that was done to him, and I want people to focus on that. If they want to rally, let's support him positively."

Approximately 150 people gathered downtown at Phoenix Civic Space Park on Thursday night to "begin an active campaign of direct action and civil disobedience over the police-brutality-related death of Rumain Brisbon," said the Rev. Jarrett Maupin, a civil-rights advocate. Maupin, who organized the event, led demonstrators in practicing their protest chants before marching more than a mile to Phoenix police headquarters. That's not what Nora Brisbon was asking for. She said she would rather that the focus be on the positive aspects of her son's life.
