Sometimes one story can sum everything up.

Quote:
Two fatal police shootings unfolded within 14 hours, both in lakeside towns in the same corner of north-west Idaho.

The first victim was Jeanetta Riley, a troubled 35-year-old pregnant woman, shot dead by police as she brandished a knife outside a hospital in the town of Sandpoint. Her death barely ruffled the tight-knit rural community, which mostly backed the officers, who were cleared of wrongdoing before the case was closed.

The second shooting, in nearby Coeur d’Alene, sparked uproar. There were rallies, protests, sinister threats against the officer responsible, and a viral campaign that spread well beyond the town and drew an apology from the mayor. The killing was ruled unjustified, and the police chief introduced new training for his officers.

The victim of the second shooting: a dog named Arfee.

Previously undisclosed messages and full copies of racist emails were released by the city of Ferguson on Friday. The documents were referenced in a report by the US Department of Justice that led to the dismissal of a series of senior city officials last month

Clink on link for about 14 pages of bigoted filth.

@izzythepush,
If someone was within 15 feet or so of myself and brandishing a knife at me I would shoot him or her myself.

A person with a knife at that short a distance is every bit as dangerous as a person with a gun and perhaps even more so.

See self defense training films showing how dangerous a knife holder can be at short distances even when the other party have a firearm.

Now the cop or cops who was dealing with this troubled 35-year-old pregnant woman more then likely was a parent him or herself and have every damn right to go back to his or her family at the end of the workday.

It surely is a very sad event but the fact that the lady with the knife was killed in and off itself does not mean that the police did a damn thing wrong.

footnote very few dogs are as dangerous/deadly as a human with a knife

@BillRM,
You're not a professionally trained police officer wearing an anti stab jacket. That would never happen over here, our officers would be able to disarm a heavily pregnant woman without any problem at all, and if your police officers are too cowardly to do the same they should be doing something else.

Btw, what you might or might not do is not really much of a guide for acceptable behaviour. You do lots of things most normal people wouldn't dream of doing.

Well I am professionally trained as a police officer and your full of crapola. Anti stab jacket??? No such ******* thing. And if your police cant be trusted to carry a firearm they should be fire fighters or letter carriers.

I am not a police officer however I off hand had never hear of an anti stab jacket either.

Perhaps some modern form of chain mail would do?

I am sure that Izzy will be kind enough to give us a link to such jackets and the police departments that made use of such jackets in the US or in the UK.

@BillRM,
Here's some real police wearing anti stab jackets. Most modern police officers have them. The fact that you, with all your lauded computer skills, are unable to find mention of them, only tells us you're an idiot. As for Gooey, he clearly can't be described as a modern police officer, not with such cavernous gaps in his knowledge of standard police equipment.

That's not even the point. It was a pregnant woman for ****'s sake. You should be able to talk her down. And as long as she's not an immediate threat that's what you should try to do. Shooting her shouldn't be an option.

@izzythepush,
What you refer to as an "ANTI STAB JACKET" is a vest worn by our corrections officers to protect against home made knives. They are VERY hot and in the prisons it is air conditioned...not so on the streets of America.
Professionally trained police officers (which you are not) do not refer to these vests as ANTI STAB. NOTHING is "anti stab" just like NOTHING is bullet proof. It may be stab resistant to a degree but it does not protect your carotid, brachial, or femoral artery. Nor does it protect your face.
It also does not protect you from ice pick type weapons unless it has MANY layers of an aramid type fiber and it would be VERY thick or have a thick and uncomfortable metal chest plate.

Anyone and I mean anyone who goes up against someone armed with an edged weapon with out a gun is a moron. And just because your police are FORCED to does not make them brave, it just makes them seem like idiots.
Dumbass

@hawkeye10,
Hawkeye you do learn something new everyday however such jackets are not commonly used by police in the US it would seems.

The main threat model in the US for the police are handguns not edge weapons.

As far as not reacting to a knife attack with deadly force due to wearing such protection that is questionable thing to do.

Lot of body areas not being protected such as the neck or under the arms where you can bleed out if stab in seconds.

Quote:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stab_vest#UK

Stab proof vests are commonly used by police in both the United Kingdom and New Zealand; in both countries it is standard issue to every officer. They are also often worn by paramedics, security staff, traffic wardens, environmental wardens, customs officers, immigration officers, bailiffs, cash in transit officers, door supervisors/bouncers, or anyone who may be under any threat.

Concealable Stab-Protective Body Armor[edit]
The Concealable Stab-Protective Body Armor (CSPBA) is a stab vest, worn by United States Army personnel performing law enforcement operations, including confinement of enemy prisoners of war and overseeing civilian internees, for protection against homemade weapons and handguns. The CSPBA provides soft armor protection to the torso against a 9mm, full metal jacket 124-grain bullet and meets the California Ice Pick standard for protection against other crude stab/slash weapons.

Dont start trouble Farmer! You know there is no such thing, you antagonist!

But seriously, why not dress them in a suit of medival armor... (then they would be real Brits of old!) makes about as much sense as not allowing them to have guns.

@giujohn,
You couldn't hack it, without your gun to hide behind you'd **** your pants in five minutes.

Real policemen call you lot fat, cowardly, stupid, trigger-happy racists. You'd not even heard of a stab vest until I mentioned it, that's how ignorant you are.

Then it's too hot for poor 'ickle gooey to wear, his mummy told him, she said he could shoot pregnant women instead.

You're very good at shooting unarmed black kids, but when a shooter is going on a rampage you cower behind all your barriers until he runs out of ammunition or shoots himself

You're not fit to empty bins, let alone wear any type of uniform.
