Cohn at NYTs says that Israel is fighting for its own existence. Super. However it is not a given that it should exist. Maybe we should look at this like a bankrupt company that needs to be dissolved. In this case maybe we should get rich muslims to give a payment to all jews who want to go back to where ever their people come from, and hand the place back over to the palestinians. If jews want to live in Palestine then they are welcome to give that a go, but they get no check.

They insisted on moving to Israel. There never has been a Palestinian state.

The IDF says no.

Those that claimed Jewish ancestry. I thought the term would be self evident.

As opposed to which other Jews?

@coldjoint,
I wonder if branco does one comparing the attack systems of the players. i.e. Hamas rockets get knocked out of the sky, Israel rockets knock civillian buildings to rubble.

@coldjoint,
Quote:
... Israel constantly says Hamas uses human shields. But in Israel’s biggest massacre of Gaza, the one in 2009, all the human rights organizations, including Amnesty, HRW, and the jurist Richard Goldstone, found that Hamas DID NOT use human shields. On the contrary, Israel used human shields, which is a regular practice for Israel. Israel uses civilians as human shields.
Israel forced Palestinian civilians to dig and lay naked in trenches around Israeli tanks. See here at 6:45.

Goldstone Report:
XIV. THE USE OF PALESTINIAN CIVILIANS AS HUMAN SHIELDS
“The Mission received allegations that in two areas in north Gaza Israeli troops used Palestinian men as human shields… The Mission found the foregoing witnesses to be credible and reliable. It has no reason to doubt the veracity of their accounts and found that the different stories serve to support the allegation that Palestinians were used as human shields.”

@hingehead,
I understand that the hospital the Isralies shelled was pandering to civilian pals who they had wounded and were therefore legitimate targets.

@coldjoint,
And Hamas wouldn't be fighting back if the formation of the state of Israel hadn't displaced the palestinian people with a shitload of European refugees. Don't know why they didn't go down to the border with signs and guns and stop them.

Genius.

Israel displaced no one. The UN did the displacing. What does the Palestinian currency look like? When was the country of Palestine founded?

Many nominal christians believe that Christ's return cannot take place unless Jews/Israelites are inhabiting Jerusalem. They cite many passages, not the least of which is a reference to the 12 tribes in Revelation 7: 4-8. Among the many who now profess the Jewish faith are a goodly number whose ancestry would no doubt qualify. That's all I meant by my reference to 'natural Jews'.

@hingehead,
I see we have another critic of Israel who thinks the fact that it can knock out most of the Hamas rockets before they kill anyone, is somehow, morally, in the favor of Hamas. No protesting how crappy the rockets are?

If some guy with a bent cake fork comes running at me; foaming at the mouth and screaming that he's going to kill me, I should only try to trip him or hit him with a nurf bat?

It's a given to the Israelis, just like its a given to Americans that the US should exist, or a given to the British that the UK should exist or a given to any people that have displaced another group and built a nation. I imagine the Israelis couldn't care any less whether you consider that the nation they built is a given. Certainly not any more than the average American or Brit would care about how you viewed the legitimacy of their nations.

Irrespective of whether the Palestinians ever had a nation before the Western World gave the place to the Jews, do you think they were farming that land, or gathering fruits and nuts since history began? Somebody displaced the Jews who lived there thousands of years ago. Was it Palestinians, or did they displace the displacers?

I get that this round of diplacing is still fresh and so the displaced are still greatly resent it, (There are probably a few Palestinians still alive who were displaced by the Jews back in the 20's.) but it's sure as hell not a given that they have an inalienable right to the location.

The proper thing to do, and more than a lot of other displacers throughout history have done is to give the displaced a place to live and call their own; so they too can build a nation. The Israelis are prepared to do just that. I don't necessarily blame the Palestinians for wanting more, but they're not going to get it, so they can move forward and build their own nation where their kids can have a future, or they can fight a battle they cannot hope to win for the next 100, 200 or 1000 years.

Maybe at some point in the distant future they might actually win, and get to displace the Jews, It would be interesting just to see how their supporters would then react; if they would organize boycotts of Palestinian cultural expressions. Maybe some Performance Artist in Brooklyn might even boycott his own use of Arabic, like one recently boycotted his use of Hebrew.

In the meantime, their kids are growing up in a barren wasteland with violence as a constant companion and being taught that the way to regain what is rightfully theirs is to kill the kids of the displacers.

Wasn't it Ahmed Al- Ja’abari the Hamas military head who famously told the Israelis "We love death more than you love life!" (Before the Israelis arranged for him to embrace his mistress). Now that's a great foundation upon which to build a nation and raise generations of happy and prosperous children.

This next video promises an even brighter future for Palestinian children, displacing the displacers.

Quote:
“The price will be high, Sons of Zion. Are you willing to pay the price? … Oh occupier, we are coming towards you. Leave our land. All of Palestine is ours. There is nothing here for you but death. There is nothing here for you but to be killed and to leave.”

“If your arms reach us they will be cut off. If your eyes look at us they will be gouged out.”

Gosh, they are a race of poets.

@Finn dAbuzz,
No Finn, you should kill his children, bomb his community's infrastructure and indiscriminately destroy people's homes who happen to live in the same locale.

Seriously, you believe your line of logic?
