You're not alone there, c.i.

Cept, they'd all be on the fifteenth book by the time I finished my first.

I asked about changing your vote because Piffka said:

"I started by voting for Fury (I think). Then I voted for Pi. So I move back to Fury."

That suggests to me that she didn't vote in the poll at all, and so if she had, it would've been 4/3.

BUT, letting other people vote between those two choices (Middlesex, Fury) is a good idea. Very Happy

Whaddya tryin to say LG? Shocked

An option.....would be to post each book title as a feature selection, with a poll. (With a time limit, of course; say three days.)

Just to clarify... when we were talking at the beginning I said I liked Fury (since it sounded short and to the point). Then the poll came along and I decided to vote for Pi, having been swayed by Debacle's smooth talk and it was also short, plus I tend to go for Booker Prize winners. When Pi wasn't going to be one of the two final books, I said, OK, I'll go back to Fury.

My reasoning is that I'd like to read all of 'em, but see no sense in reading a costly hardbound book which will come out in PB in a couple of months when there is a perfectly good, less expensive paperback we could start with. Just call me cheap!

not cheap, practical. i agree.

went down to the nearby local book store "best seller" to get a jump on this. the store is not there anymore. they didn't close, they are just not there. that whole wing of the mall is gone. it looks like the winds of the typhoon blew in all the large glass windows and then the constant wind and possibly pressure, ripped the entire roof off.

My gosh, all those books blown away in a windstorm? Not even a good sale or anything? Guam needs to settle down, all this weather is getting to be too much.

I have arrived late to the polling, but I was early-on in the planning. Since I live in such a large metropolis, I've no doubt my local library will get me whatever book is decided on. The inter-library loans make it all so convenient and do-able. I've heard of "Middlesex" but not of the others. Since I am presently still unemployed and looking for work, I have the time to read. And, since I live with righteous folks, well, like I said - I have time to read!

I'm up for whatever book is decided upon. I still haven't found the poll.

When do we start?

Joe - The poll has been removed because there was a tie between "Middlesex" (Jeffrey Eugenides) and "Fury" (Saman Rushdie)

The poll would not adapt to a tie-breaker betwen the two, so we are now voting on the thread, and I, with me ears a-twirling and a-drooping, cos this seems to be a very unclear task to many, am keeping tally.

Please indicate your choice - clearly and firmly, and with no humming and hahing!

Jespah -- You may still be able to look in and participate. In the book club I was in for many years, after some frustrating attempts at getting everybody to read the book, we insisted that anyone who attended must (at least) read the front and back covers of the book... and the Jane Chord. The Jane Chord was named for some long forgotten wife of a book critic who said that much could be learned by putting the first and last words of a book together.

Here are some sample Jane Chords:
Walden -- In star.
Pinnochio -- There boy.
Robinson Crusoe -- I peace.
Farewell to Arms -- In rain.
The Two Towers -- Aragorn enemy.

With that under your belt, you can manage at least part of any discussion! Laughing
