Looking for a child's story book ca. early 1950's

This book was a hard bound picture/story book about 8" x 10" in size with a predominately purple cover. The story is set in a town in the the middle ages and involved pet blackbird in a cage that was passed around to several trades people. They included, as well I can remember, a tailor, a baker, and a butcher, though there may be more.

Any information about the authorship of this book would be appreciated.
