Fainted, but didn't lose consciousness?

I want to know if this happened to anyone or if anyone knows what it might be. Im 16. not obese. No medical issues/family history. I was taking a hot shower. But I've taken hot showers for longer times (up to 1+ hour long at some points) I was only 10 minutes into it when I started to feel nauseous. It was 10 am and I didn't eat that morning but I ate plenty the night before and i never eat first thing to begin with. I drank plenty the night before too. I thought maybe it was the steam so I quickly finished and got out. I grabbed my towel, went to my room and sat down on my bed. It kept getting worse, felt more lightheaded and my vision started to get blurry. I thought I was just going to throw up so I went out in the hallway towards the bathroom. By the time I left my room I couldn't even see - everything was black. That's when I got pretty scared thinking it was more serious. It was just my mom home so I yelled for her as loud as i could multiple times but she wasn't answering. At the same time I was using my hands to feel around the wall to find the bathroom door handle but couldn't. I was freaking out so I tried banging on the wall to get her attention - still nothing. I couldn't stand anymore and half laid-half collapsed on the floor.(landing hard enough to bruise my hand) The weird thing is I don't remember losing consciousness. I just laid until my vision came back and my heart went to normal. This all probably happened within 5 min at the most. I don't want to worry my mom or see a doctor unless its serious.

The hot shower must have done it, it could have been mild heatstroke.
When I have a hot shower the first thing I need to do after I come out is to have a nice cold drink of water or pop.
So maybe you got dehydrated and your body was telling you it needed a cold drink.

You need to tell your mother.

Quite possibly, but she still needs to tell her mother.

@Naomi619,
Let me ask a question, Naomi.

At any time during the episode...did you get a sensation of deja vu?

@Frank Apisa,
Nope, no deja vu. I hope that's a good thing

@Naomi619,
So, it seems you're ignoring the posts that are letting you know you need to tell your mother.

You're not sneaking past us with that baby girl.

I wouldn't worry about that; (rolls eyes). You just fainted. Teenagers do faint more than other aged people, I think, especially girls (at certain times of the month) but you still should tell someone about it. Maybe your school has a nurse? Possibly you have low blood pressure or need more iron, who knows? If you faint again, at school or in the street you could get hurt, and also your mother will certainly hear about that, and she may be angry that you hid the first time from her.

@chai2,
Lol no. I just care more about what it was than my mom knowing. Wouldn't change anything. Can't go spending money we don't have at a doctors, plus I have work to be at soon.

I guess it just had to do with too much heat and steam from the shower. (The bathroom door was closed, letting no heat escape, since leaving it open while I shower causes the fire alarm to go off)

Well, from now on cold showers it is.

@Naomi619,
Well, if you don't have a lot of money, and lots of us don't, you are wasting a huge amount of water - which is rather precious in these days of drought in many places - with hour long showers. Your water bill must be something fierce.

Actually, it is a good thing.

The advise you are getting to let your mother know is sound advice, Naomi. And I hope your mother realizes it would be worthwhile to see a doctor about it. This was not something small...but it may not be very serious either. Only a doctor will be able to tell you that.

Maybe your mother would know what it is.

She probably would know better than any of us.

It could be a whole host of things, only someone familiar with your nutritional and medical history can tell you anything of specific value.

People have been known to have that experience in the early stages of pregnancy, when they have an imbalance of blood sugar and insulin due to diabetes, when they are severely anemic from low iron or blood loss, low potassium leading to heart arrhythmia, from migraine headaches, from being overheated, from standing too quickly, from motion sickness, from high fever, etc., etc.

Tell your mother about it, if for no other reason than to let her know you were in distress and could not get her attention by yelling and banging on the wall.

If you ever feel similar symptoms while in a hot shower, turn the water temperature down and let the cooling water run over your face. If need be, bend over and lower your head below your waist to get the blood flowing to your head again.

Go see a doctor and find out what is going on so you don't have a repeat episode.

And wise up and eat something in the mornings, even if it is just a piece of cheese or slice of bread.. It isn't good for your body to go without any food for so long. If you are doing it to lose weight, you are making the problem worse by forcing your body to go into starvation mode to slow down the metabolism and store food as fat for those long periods of starvation between meals.

You say you drank plenty the night before. Were you drinking alcohol?

Fainting IS loss of consciousness.

You're very unwise to not inform your mother about what happened.

You're taking a gamble that the cause of your losing consciousness is trivial. That's a very bad gamble - especially if there's some sort of underlying health problem.

Had you recently drank any alcohol? Have you been on a diet or restricted food in any way?

@Naomi619,
You stated that you LOST VISION, but were still mobile. You were then a conscious girl.

If you, indeed lost your eye sight, this is a very, very serious problem. I won't speculate on the cause, but I advise you to tell your mother and/or go to an ER for an evaluation right now.

I've just remembered, my young teenage sister used to like very hot baths years ago, and my concerned mother asked her not to have it so hot, but she replied- "I like it so hot that I nearly faint".
At around that time in her life she developed epilepsy, so I wonder if it was linked to her liking for hot baths?

@chai2,
Maybe not, she lets her run the shower turned up for a long time.
