didn't you read/hear what people thought of Sterling after the interview? the court of public opinion voted him off the island
On June 22nd, 1941, the American Communist Party,
abruptly n diametrically FLIPPED its demands for American neutrality n pacifism
(while the USSR was allied with the 3rd Reich) to new demands that we
"open a second front" because the nazis attacked their allies, the commies.
I thought that was humorous.
I believe that the left wud be yelling a lot louder,
and on the OTHER side, if Mr. Sterling had said something
controversial which the left LIKES e.g., if he had declared
himself to be a communist, to popular outrage and abhorrence.
THEN, we 'd be hearing leftist screams
of the right to have your own opinion, un-molested.
If George Zimmerman had been a black and Martin had been a white
and thay both did the same things that thay actually did,
I 'd still have rooted for the defendant to succeed.
I support the right of armed self defense, regardless of race,
but I strongly suspect that the left wud have supported
Zimmerman if he had been a black that had killed a white.
If Mr. Sterling had spoken in support of GUN CONTROL,
and the players, in revulsion at the notion of people being
screwn out of their right to "equal protection of the laws"
concerning their 2nd Amendment right to defend their lives and property,
had then threatened a walkout, then the left wud have supported Mr. Sterling.

Not by the polls I had seen to date.

What was pitiful was his insistence that, "I'm not a racist," as he continued to express biased views. He has the insight of a fruit-fly. He just doesn't get it. And he's likely always been like that, because he's voiced biased views for a long, long time. In the past, he used his money to help camouflage or distract from his biased views--he could insulate himself with his money. Now that his chickens have come home to roost, he doesn't like that, he can't buy his way out of this one, and he's feeling sorry for himself.
No, I don't think seeming pitiful will aid him in the court of public opinion. He dug himself in even deeper with that interview.
@firefly,
Don't forget, there people like Bill, David, et al, who thinks he was shafted in one way or another. Sterling has his advocates for whatever reasons.
@BillRM,
the numbers aren't heading in Mr. Sterling's favour (especially in the fan group, which is what the NBA cares about - that's where the money is)
Quote:While 47% of all Americans think Sterling should be forced to give up his team, that number changes when the poll focuses on people who identify themselves as NBA fans.
Sixty-percent of those who describe themselves as fans of professional basketball support stripping the team of its owner, compared to 41% who are not fans of the NBA.
Quote:The survey was conducted May 2-4 for CNN by ORC International, with 1,008 adult nationwide – including 307 fans of professional basketball – questioned by telephone. The sampling error among adult Americans is plus or minus three percentage points, while the sampling error among NBA fans 5.5 percentage points.
a week later
Quote:Donald Sterling has a long way to go if he wants to convince NBA fans he deserves a second chance as owner of the Los Angeles Clippers, according to a new HuffPost/YouGov poll. More than 6 in 10 fans of the sport are ready to force him out.
According to the poll, 55 percent of Americans, including 73 percent of those who say they follow the NBA, approve of the punishments the league has already handed out to Sterling, including a lifetime ban and a $2.5 million fine. Only 28 percent of Americans overall and 18 percent of NBA fans said they disapprove of Sterling's punishment.

@ehBeth,
The NBA demographic runs 45% black 40% white

So I bet what we have are numbers like 99% of blacks want him gone, and 40% of whites.
@hawkeye10,
You're trash; not worth the time of day.
@hawkeye10,
Nice link, but missing tennis. I know that 16 million watched the 2012 US Open final for the men with no US player in the mix. I'd like to see the demographics on that.
@hawkeye10,
actually if you follow the link to the 2nd survey (and find the earlier CNN one) you'll find that the surveyed groups had too few blacks to split them out in the non-white group

show me the $
Shouldn't you be wondering why the results were not reported back to us by race? Smells kind of fishy to me.
@hawkeye10,
Typical hawk; post some bull shyt made up numbers, then say "it's fishy."
You're the only one who smells around here!
@hawkeye10,
how much money are you betting?
I know where the numbers are

1) you didn't follow the link

here is the data

funny, that doesn't look like 99%
where's the $ ? who will you be donating it to?
@ehBeth,
I am a surprised that the results are not more lopsided considering how far Magic was out in front of this. He prides himself on having his finger on the pulse of black america, but here they are not completely monolithic.
@hawkeye10,
You're going to blame Magic for you welching on a bet?
