Strange isn't it that labor market participation has been at long term lows for the past five years. with little improvement indicated.

@georgeob1,
Aren't you keep up with the news on job creation? Over 240,000 jobs last month.

This morning, the Labor Department released its employment data for December, showing that the U.S. economy ended the year by adding 113,000 private sector jobs, knocking the unemployment rate down sharply from 9.8 percent to 9.4 percent — its lowest rate since July 2009. The “surprising drop — which was far better than the modest step-down economists had forecast — was the steepest one-month fall since 1998.” October and November’s jobs numbers were also revised upward by almost 80,000 each. Still, 14.5 million Americans remain unemployed, and jobs will have to be created much faster in coming months for the country to pull itself out of the economic doldrums.

That big dip was caused by GW Bush.

Not only that, but the GOP has voted NO on all job creating legislation, minimum wage increases, and equal pay for women.

@georgeob1,
The labor market participation is supposed to go down as more of the population ages and is over 60. There will be more people over 60 five years from now and even more 10 years from now.

@parados,
That's also because the GOP refuses to work on reforming immigration. They cry wolf at every turn, but don't do anything to solve them. They create problems by not working towards solutions. NO goes nowhere, and that's the GOP in congress today.

Our population isn't ageing as fast As labor market participation is falling. The populations getting foodstamps, medicaid and SS dsisabilityt payments have exploded.

@georgeob1,
With the GOP saying no to job creating legislation, no to increase minimum wage, and no to equal pay for women, what do you expect? Miracles?

However, there are miracles, because job creation is continuing to increase, and most people who lost in the stock market in 2008-2009 have now recovered most of their losses. All that within the world economy where Europe and China are suffering from slower growth while the US continues to expand our economy. Those are miracles. No thanks to the GOP.

@georgeob1,
Well let's see what the census says....

From 2008 to 2014 the number not in labor force has gone up by about 13 million according to BLS.
http://data.bls.gov/timeseries/LNS15000000

From 2005 to 2015 the estimated number over 60 has gone up by 16 million.
http://www.aoa.gov/Aging_Statistics/future_growth/future_growth.aspx
From 2010 to 2015 it has gone up by 9 million.

We can compare the 2005 to 2010 with the numbers from both.
Labor participation change is 6.6 million.
Over 60 is a change of 7.2 million.

It would appear much of the change is from the increase in over 60.
Digging a little deeper in the census bureau shows that from 2008 to 2013 there is an increase of 11 million persons over the age of 60 at a time the labor force decreased by 11 million.

Who cares what it says? Or you. The economy sucks. And all the numbers that favor your argument don't change that fact.

The economy has sucked since W fucked the Clinton economy he inherited. By any measurement the President is giving us a better economy than W gave us in his last six year. Why are you so stupid?
