Is the sentence below grammatically correct?

"I would like to thank you for considering me
eligible for the post of System Engineer and
approving my promotion." Is there anything
wrong in the above sentence?

@falconer,
I would change that to read, "I would like to thank you for approving my promotion to the post of System Engineer."

Thank you for the response. I actually wanted to emphasize the fact that he considers me eligible for that post. How grammatically incorrect is that sentence, if it is?

@falconer,
I'm confused; they didn't give you a promotion? It seems you need two separate sentences to respond. One for the promotion, and the other for the "consideration."

The scenario is he had mailed me that I would be promoted and my promotion is approved but I wasn't given the official promotion letter.

No. Its OK.
U might consider adding the word: "for" before
the word: "approving".
