Isn't that the one where the girl broke her spine on a practice run?

Don't know. Was watching the men's. Girl had a big crash in the slope style (last week). Don't know if that's the one you're talking about.

@McGentrix,
Really, thanks for filling in, and posting the scores. Even if you're "just hitting refresh", it's very much appreciated.

I hadn't checked scores in a few days, but I'm pleasantly surprised at how my team is faring. Thee more days left, correct?

Plenty of Winter sports put a person serious risk. Some are downright crazy.

One of the British sports commentators on the curling - is Rob Curling.

@Wilso,
There was a good 2-part documentary on ice on CBC radio this week. There was an interesting section on how they pebble the ice used for curling. A lot more complicated than I would have guessed. I always thought it was just bumpy. Turns out there is art and science involved in getting the sheets just pebbly enough.

@ehBeth,
Yep. I've read about it on Wiki. Very scientific. I actually wouldn't mind having a go at it. There's an ice rink about 1/2 an hour away from here. Don't know if they do it though. I'm too damned old for ski jumping.

Is there going to be a 4 man bobsled? Haven't seen it yet, and it's almost over.

Yes.

I forget the details, but I looked at a schedule earlier, and I remember noticing that 4 man bobsled was one of the last events of the games.

@oralloy,

And now this:

I don't know. I can see all these spots where people are saying the scoring was a bit off in the various events. But it looks to me like in every single case, if the scoring was adjusted to be "more correct" it would not change who won which medal. It would just make the margins of victory a bit closer.

ISU Statement on the ISU Judging System

21 Feb 2014 - Sochi, Russia

Pursuant to contacts with the IOC, the ISU would like to issue the following statement on the ISU judging system related to figure skating events at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games:

The ISU is strongly committed to conducting performance evaluations strictly and fairly and has adequate procedures in place to ensure the proper running of the sporting competitions. The officiating judges were selected by random drawing from a pool of 13 potential judges. All judges in an event represent different ISU member federations. The Ladies' free skating panel included judges from Canada, Estonia, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, Slovakia and Ukraine. To avoid exaggerated markings the highest and the lowest scores entered by the judges are excluded to produce the final score. The technical panel determines the elements of each performed program. The judges add a mark, grading the quality of the skater's execution of the elements so identified. The technical marks and the artistic presentation marks are added together to produce the final score of the skater.

The ISU has not received any official protest with regard to the Ladies' Free Skating event or any other event held during the Sochi 2014 Olympic Games and is confident in the high quality and integrity of the ISU judging system.

I'm just starting looking at this myself - lots of interesting photos (well, to me, so far), 43 in total, starting from early times:

@Wilso,
I always thought the biathlon would be my winter Olympics sport - if I had a winter Olympics chance. Curling needs too much finesse.
