Over here we witnessed his meltdown first hand. He was a leading light in the Green Party who were riding high at the time. His revelations condemned them to 20 years of political obscurity.

He wasn't a Cockney though, he was a Lancastrian. You may not appreciate the difference over there, but from here it's huge.

My group used to do the Littlewoods pools. We had permutation entries all over the place...and actually kept our heads above water.

They were the most interesting betting systems I ever played...and would love to have the US develop something like them...for half-time scores. We have enough tie scores at half-time for it to work (almost no final ties)...although we have much fewer teams to work with. Eight would be out of the question...but fewer would work. Although if college games were included...hummm.

My guess is it would become popular quickly.

It's not so popular now that we have a lottery. Bookmakers must make money hand over fist, the offers that they give, free £5 or even £50 bet when you join. Get your money back (as a free bet) if it's a draw, would put any other (non betting) business into liquidation right away. Not only that, they spend an absolute fortune on TV adverts.
