The drive from LA to San Jose is about 6.5 hours. We have a international airport here in San Jose, only about five miles from our home. I will come to the airport to pick you up. However, it will be much easier and cheaper to fly from London to San Francisco - a nonstop flight of about ten hours. I'll treat everybody that comes to donuts and coffee. Wink

With a round-the-world ticket I can get to LA, New Zealand, the South Pacific, Australia, and SE Asia all for about £800. Seems like a good idea. But it won't be for quite a while... early 2005? Alternativley, I can try for Mexico and Costa Rica on the same trip, and maybe some other central and south American places.

Watch out, California!!

Clary, there are so many interesting places to visit in south America. If you ever plan to go, don't miss the Galapagos Islands. I can also recommend many other places in south America, but will hold off for now on any more recommendations until 2005.

At the Maritime Museum in Greenwich, I saw a display on Charles Darwin, so when I visited the Galapagos last year, it made it so much more meaningful when we visited the Charles Darwin Research Center where 100 scientists still study evolution.

Yay!
Sunny weather again.
Went to Chester, had a good look round, very nice, met a Scottish bagpiper from Motherwell who had lived in Essen. Had fish & chips in the Victoria pub at Chester Cross.
Cheshire countryside looking its best, Budworth and Kelsall and Tarvin, places like that we passed through, to have a look at. Mrs W was impressed.
Yesterday, went to Bramall Hall, Ack Lane (!) and Jodrell Bank, via John Lewis store at Cheadle and Macclesfield.
Today, we're going to Southport, maybe via Salford Quays (and Old Trafford?). Got my bucket and spade.

All well. Greetings. McT

An Englishman, and maybe a Scotsman too, takes his bucket and spade on to the beach with him for aesthetic reasons: to build a sandcastle.

An American, evidently, had more practical reasons for doing so. That's probably why you rule the world, and we are still mere romantic dreamers.

Smile

Still sunny here: today, we'll try the big city, Manchester.

That is what I always do - build castles, but since this country doesnt have any beaches - I build them in the air Smile

Back since last night, I admit that we really had a very good time, both in Anglia as in the North. (And although I had in London that day and rumours were about it: it definately wasn't me, who throw the purple powder i the Houses of Parliament towards the Prime Minister.)

The excellent weather and hosts (Steve's and McTag's) made country, cities, towns and countrysite even pretier than they already are.
