I used to pronounce it "double u" or "dub u"(at a fast speed). But today a guy just told me I was wrong.. It should be pronounced as "dub lju" or "dub liu"(don't know how to write that sound...)
is that true???
@98future,
I pronounce it as double ewe, people with other accents may pronounce it differently, especially if they are from a country where english is not the mother tongue. George Bush pronounced it Dubbya.
@98future,
I have the letter as the start of my surname and pronounce it Dubba-ewe.
As Ceili indicates, there are different pronunciations depending where you are.

Correct, because that is what it is - a double letter U.

You can ignore him.
@contrex,
Strictly speaking, it's a double V . . . but at the time the letter was named, there was no distinction between a U and a V.

Ha! See what I did there?
"Double-you" here. A three-syllable sound, with the emphasis on the first syllable.

Indeed. I realised that after the period for editing was over when I recalled that in French you say "double vé" and in Spanish either "doble ve" or "uve doble".
@contrex,
In old-high-German, 'w' was maily written "uu", but sometimes "vv" (and
uv,
vu) as well) .

No it shouldn't. Shut up already with your damn nonsense.
@contrex,
I ignore your rude foolishness.

Don't you mean "yor rood fulishnes"?

In England that's been his nickname since at least 2000, except we spell it Dubya.

There is
no justification
for changing the spelling of
W.
