@Nat093,
Nat, the book is,

Listening in the Real World - Clues to English Conversation by Michael A Rost & Robert K Stratton

It's out of print and wasn't available even as used on Amazon.com, but there are used copies available on both the UK and Canadian Amazon websites, links are below. The price is right too.

http://www.amazon.ca/gp/offer-listing/0940264005/ref=dp_olp_0?ie=UTF8&condition=all&qid=1382136617&sr=1-1

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listing/0940264005/ref=dp_olp_used?ie=UTF8&condition=used

It deals with compressed speech not for English words but for the most oft spoken grammatical structures of English, for example,

Would you like a pizza? ----> Wudjya like a pizza?

Has he been to the doctor? ---> Zee bin to the doctor?

@JTT,
Thanks a lot, I hope it will help Smile But do you know why it is so hard to find any information about this book on the Internet?

@JTT,
JTT I'm often impressed by your erudition; you must have quite a library

@dalehileman,
Well I'm actually interested in some slang/jargon dictionary of English that I could include in my bibliography. It would make a better impression I suppose. Obviously, online dictionaries are also very useful but at least one in form of book would be preferable.

I knew a country boy from Oklahoma who would say to me, in the middle of the day:

"Djeetyit?"

I'd say no, and he'd say:

"Onta?"

What he was saying was "Did you eat yet?" and "[Do you] want to?"

In short, he was suggesting that we go to lunch.
