In some regions in Asia, such a thing is placed upon a piece of wood board; a person sleeps on it as his bed. In my first langauge, it is known as a 'bamboo mat', but what is it called in English?

@WBYeats,
I think you are Chinese so you are probably looking for the translation of a 凉席.

Usually, it's a bamboo sleeping mat or, simply, a sleeping mat.

Check out here: Sleeping mat

They are usually called bamboo mats or sometimes bamboo rugs.

I would say tatami mat but I'm not sure they're the same thing.

Looking at google images, they either are the same or are quite related. Tatami mats are japanese.

edit, tatami, according to wikipedia, are traditionally made of rice straw - thus not bamboo.

You never know, it might be a prescriptive-imperialist-war criminal plot, and they are really made of rattan, or fibreglass or something.

@contrex,
Big bamboos are split lengthwise, and the slivers are strung together, shiny (smooth) side up.

@contrex,
I just looked at your bamboo mat link, liked it.
I also like european style bathrooms with floor drains, but that's another subject.

That's often called a "wet room"- a bathroom where you can spray water everywhere.

@McTag,
I just know those from Italy, and those didn't want you to spray all over the room. I thought they made a lot of sense.

@ossobuco,

Okay a "wet room" here, and they're quite a new thing, is just like a shower room without any surround to the shower.
A drain on a tiled floor is sensible, it allows you to sluice down and mop up quickly. Maybe for warmer climates?

@McTag,
Could be.
In some places I stayed at, the bathroom floor was raised to fit in the drain. Forgetting this one night, I slammed my foot into a marble step up at the bathroom doorway. Gaaaah.
