A large plane crashed Wednesday morning near the airport in Birmingham, Ala., causing multiple explosions, NBC affiliate WVTM is reporting.

According to initial reports, the plane was a UPS cargo plane.

WVTM reports the plane is burning and there have now been at least three explosions. The debris from the crash stretches about a half-mile.

This is a breaking news story and will be updated.
