"One of the" question

Hi,

"The F-16C Fighting Falcon is one of the most sophisticated and advanced multi-role fighter aircraft in the world today."

I've learnt that when we use "one of the", it is usually plural. E.g. One of the friends. Could anyone explain to me whether the first paragraph is correct by saying "one of the most sophisticated and advanced multi-role fighter"?

Thanks!

@woochunonn,
fighter AIRCRAFT

"Note, "aircraft" can be singular or plural but here it's plural.
