@Loh Jane,
No. That is not a typical word pairing.

You could say something like this: "The audience was vast and were very thankful for the performance."

@Ragman,
Jane, ignore this comment to Rags. You don't ever want to say something was half vast.

You can also say the audience was half vast.

@Loh Jane,
Having a (half vast pun) half arsed one myself, Ive noticed how vocabulary vastly improves my ability to read and write language.

@Loh Jane,
You could say that something is vastly appreciated, if you want to use the word. So far as I know, vastly is always an adverb and needs to modify a verb.

@roger,
Only if they sat on the edge of their chairs...(half on-half off). Pretty cheeky, eh?

@Ragman,
Okay, but usually a half vast audience is just difficult to please.

Sadly vastly stuck in the presently.

OMG! Is this supposed to be an English language thread. I sure hope Jane isn't easily annoyed.

Law English is so complicated and formal.

@Loh Jane,
Legal English is confusing to most real people. Also, repetitious and redundant. I don't for one minute believe this is accidental.

You should put the phrase in question in quotes/italics/bold/underlined, Jane, to make it clear the portion you are asking about. Example:

is it acceptable to say "that thanks vastly"?

is it acceptable to say that thanks vastly?

is it acceptable to say that thanks vastly?

is it acceptable to say that thanks vastly?

I surmise that this is the portion you are referencing, Jane.

Yes, it is acceptable under these conditions:

You are an ENL or a highly proficient ESL/EFL. Why? Because it is not at all common but it could happen, said in a manner that left little or no doubt that the speaker knew - it's word play.

My nieces and nephews play a little game where they transpose the first letters of, usually, a two word phrase, "gad birl". The other has to describe the actual, real phrase in English.

Do you know what it is?

Here's some more. There're easy written but they can be mind benders when they are only spoken. I'll give some as they sound rather than the real spelling.

Nad booze
pingasore
donlon
