Pass it by your best friend.
If he has a problem with it...find a new best friend, because he is not filling the bill.
If he truly is your best friend (and obviously has not talked up a lingering flame for the girl)...he should simply say, "Hey, go for it."
End of story.
But run it past him if the friendship truly is important!
