@Loh Jane,
The first one is good.

For the second, try:

All the same, a month afterwards food prices have increased.

@Loh Jane,
Jane, "felt glad" is redundant. Maybe "was glad"

Mere technicality

@Loh Jane,

Quote:
food prices have raised.

Food prices have risen. Or increased, as said before.

Quote:
Everyone felt glad that salaries increased.

Everyone was glad that salaries had increased.

Hi all,
Can I say 'All the same the government has raised food prices'?

@Loh Jane,
Only if it was the government that raised prices, it may well have been the marketplace. Governments only really control prices in command economies, although they can decide to subsidise certain basics like bread in Egypt.

Not so in British English. One can feel glad, or be glad. "Feeling" glad, or sad, or hopeful, or angry, or whatever localizes the feeling to a moment or occasion whereas "being" is more spread out in time. I feel glad now; I will be glad for a while.

@contrex,
When I hear the song in my head I always have to think twice before remembering it's not The Beatles. I think that one in particular gets the sound spot on.

@Loh Jane,
Jane, forgive me but your posting suffers from the common misconception that everyone is closely following a thread

Quote:
is my sentence correct or not?
Not clear just what sentence (eg, my sentence no. 2 in posting #….448)

Quote:
have posted a new thread. Please comment…...
But what's it entitled and when did you post it

Quote:
'Everyone felt glad that salaries increased'.
Supposedly from the new thread; we're not sure because if I'm right why is the new thread even required

Jane my apologies however, if we're not supposed to be in on your chat with Con, who seems to be following admirably

Forgive me again Jane if I pull your leg just a little but a typical posting of this sort to which I make ref might, eg, assert:

"Thanks for that, but it was two, not one, like he said, and if the last few from that source agree with the one discussing it then why are you so certain that she's talking about the same outcome, if that's what's needed to confirm their current observation, that is, the one formerly describing the difference"

food prices have been raised [by somebody/something].

And as McTag noted, food prices have risen is fine.
