I refuse to demand background checks
because that conflicts with the Constitutional requirement of "equal protection of the laws".

Background checks are un-Constitutional discrimination.

Everyone has as much right to defend his property
or to defend his life, as anyone else.
Men who have proven themselves to be intolerable threats to society
shud be removed from contact therewith and ISOLATED
after conviction of any crimes that thay have committed
(preferably not on the North American Continent).

@RexRed,
Where did it say in the article that she was violent?
I must have missed that part.

@mysteryman,
Someone was apparently violent and the word "suicide" though not confirmed indicates a wee bit of violence...

I guess carrying the "Glock holstered on her hip in plain view" was worth more in security than just getting a divorce... More, guns are the answer to everything huh? Apparently not in this case...

Also there is this...

@Baldimo,
I have no problem with "sane adult" use and ownership of guns... The robber is lucky he is not dead, he owes his life to a cautious and thoughtful security person...

When I was 8,
I had as much right to defend MY life as any "sane adult",
so I made the necessary preparations, just in case.

Everyone is equally entitled to "equal protection of the laws".

@OmSigDAVID,
I will tell you a true story...

I raised two of my brother's children with my mother till they were young adults...

One day my mother and I were late getting home on a school night. It happens... My 11 year old nephew had regrettably spent a couple hours home alone...

He barricaded himself into the house and turned out all the lights and, no, we did NOT have guns in the house...

It was just dark when we finally got home.

I opened the front door to the house and my 11 year old nephew came charging at me in the dark with a homemade bow and arrow. I saw the arrow feebly fall to the ground. No, we did not even let the children have a real bow and arrows...

He said in a panicked voice, "Oh uncle I almost shot you!" Afterwards I examined this bow and arrow, it was a piece of yarn strung between an alder branch. It would not have even propelled the thick alder branch he intended to use to defend himself.

Had there been a gun in the house I would probably not be here to tell this story.

I am proud of the way I and my mother raised him and his sister. At 18 years old he joined the Coast Guard... He is also the father of two beautiful children of his own now and he is also clergy...

David, you think the answer to everything is guns and you are WRONG...

David, you think the answer to everything is guns and you are WRONG...
Well, no, Rex. If u have a slow computer,
your roof leaks, or u get a flat tire, the answer is not guns.

What will he do now,
if he needs to defend his home ??

He needed to understand (as a principle of gun safety)
that he needs to know what he is shooting at
and what is behind that b4 he discharges a round.

Inasmuch as u easliy saw that it was not an effective weapon,
I surmise that (if he had the mind of a normal 11 year old)
he also knew that and he was only playing games with u.

Well David, if your computer is slow, you shoot your computer technician,

If your roof leaks, shoot your carpenter,

If you get a flat tire, shoot your mechanic.... (cynical)

Do you really expect an 11 year old, even after gun training, to know what to do when most grown adults shoot first than ask questions later?

He does not have the death of his uncle or grammy on his conscience...

Once again, guns are not the answer...

It hardly seems fair
to call them over and them shoot them (without their consent).
R u sure that 's legal ?

RexRed wrote:

I believe that I did, when I was 8;
sometimes its obvious, e.g. if he sees someone robbing his mom (or worse).

RexRed wrote:

I do not accept your premise
that "most" adults do that.

RexRedd wrote:

He cud be very satisfied
if he RESCUED either of u, IF he had the means
to handle the situation.

Its better to HAVE a gun and not need it,
than it is to NEED a gun and not have it.

The same as for all tools,
guns r the answer to SOME questions, but not the answer to ALL of them.

The anti-gun rationale is really irrational.
It makes no sense. It offends elementary logic.
