Why would my ex text me out of the blue??

If you are doing fine...do not reply to him.

If you are doing great...do not reply to him.

If things are not going so good for you...do not reply to him.

Don't even think about why the text.

Whatever the reason, it will not impact on why he is your "ex."

Or...reply...and see how things go.

He/She is lonely and/or horny.

Because he heard you might be available soon.

Or maybe he just had a stopover at the Greyhound Bus station, one of those where they clear all the passengers off while they clean the vehicle. He went inside the terminal and there were no phone directories to peruse so he texted you instead.

My advice would be to ignore the text, just delete it and give it no more thought. My experience has been if you reply to be courteous, it's possible he will attribute it to interest on your part. It gets complicated, and surprisingly no matter how old the parties are or how long they have been broken up, when you hear from and old flame after things ended badly, don't take the bait.

Here's another possibility besides the ones others mentioned already. Perhaps he meant the text for someone else?
