An elderly man walks into a confessional. The following conversation ensues:

Man: 'I am 92 years old, have a wonderful wife of 70 years, many children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Yesterday, I picked up two college girls, hitch-hiking. We went to a motel, where I had sex with each of them three times.'

Priest: 'Are you sorry for your sins?'

Man: 'What sins?'

Priest: 'What kind of a Catholic are you?'

Man: 'I'm Jewish.'

Priest: 'Why are you telling me all this?'

Man: 'I'm 92 years old . . . . I'm telling everybody!'

@Frank Apisa,
I was raised catholic, multiply mentioned here over and over, and I remember that some of my uncles on mother's side were playful - but mostly my family wasn't funny about irish humor. Or maybe I missed it, since they tended to feud. Mother's family were all from the Boston area, but the family migrated to California, following the oldest boy, after 1918. Movie business in their future, probably different jokes.

It took me years to get that mick is some kind of negative word to some.

@Frank Apisa,
I've heard a slightly different (more off-color) version of that one, Frank, but the punch-line is the same.

@Foofie,
Foofie I could care less what you find funny.
Money hungry is not a term that I would use to describe a nation or entire cultural group. Not even as a caricature. The joke could have worked with politician or journalists or any other religion.
Whatever, dissecting a joke is ******* worthless.

I can only see the odd you tube video, long story, but saw that one. Geez, Louise!

Not being raised in an irish enclave, there or in the u.s., some of this is new to me.

Tnx

@ossobuco,
No, that's just his nose, his big nose, his Shron mor. Smile

The Savage Eye is a popular sketch show here in Ireland. That's Dave McSavage.
Gives you some idea of the standing of the Catholic church in Ireland these days.

@eurocelticyankee,
I'm still doubtful, seems like a nose aspersion to me.

Or maybe a joke. When I wasn't yet born, the irish in hollywood intermingled with jews, for better or worse for either, and all those people could joke.
An uncle of mine was Selznick's treasurer, perhaps nothing to brag about at the end. I have no idea how they all accepted or didn't accept each other.

@eurocelticyankee,
I can't understand it - my poor hearing plus the strange to me accents.

I could use a translation on many youtubes.

If one wants to see the brilliance of Irish humor, one need only watch old episodes of Burns and Allen, with Gracie Allen.

Thought I might as well post this here.

Quote:
An Irish publican has been prosecuted after police found dozens of "nuns" drinking illegally, several hours past closing time on his premises.

Christy Walsh, who runs the bar in Listowel, County Kerry, has been fined a total of 700 euros (£605) after his pub was raided twice in one night.

He had helped to organise a charity event in the town last July, in which hundreds of people dressed up as nuns.

Mr Walsh said he was "disappointed" but vowed to continue his charity work.

Holy show

The Nunday event took place in Listowel on 30 June 2012, and set a new record for the "largest gathering of people dressed as nuns".

In total, 1,436 adults made a holy show of themselves at a GAA sports ground in the town.

The volunteers donned nuns' outfits and gathered in the field, where they were counted by officials acting on behalf of Guinness World Records.

The adjudicators also made sure that the 'sisters' observed a strict dress code. It had to include a habit, a veil, black shoes and black socks or tights.

Mr Walsh, who was a member of the Nunday organising committee, said the small town's population doubled for the day as up to 3,000 extra people came to Listowel to either participate in or witness the unusual event.

It was staged in aid of Pieta House, a suicide and self-harm awareness charity.

@Frank Apisa,
It's a shame they weren't real nuns.
