Alas. I just hoped the god-awful glut of strapless gowns would be outsourced to China by then. In my opinion, they made women look like linebackers.
Why does the author think strapless gowns make women look like linebackers?
I've searched for pictures of both strapless gowns and rugby linebakcers, but I find no similarities between them.

I think the author is implying that he thinks that they should be made in China to be done correctly...It seems he is saying that the ways they are made now, They make women look masculine, muscular, or disproportionate. Because the author is saying they think they are not produced properly right now.
