@H2O MAN,
Darn,

I wasted the time to listen to the segment that is getting conservatives all hot and bothered. This clown recommends a flat tax where everyone, rich and poor alike, pay the same percentage, and he says that this was Jesus' way.

I don't think this guy read the parts of the Bible where Jesus told rich people the needed to sell all their possessions to get to heaven.

But then again, the Bible always has served as a Rorschach test. People make it say whatever they want it to say. That's probably why the Bible is still read after 1600 years.

Not really, but that is irrelevant since this passage in no way argues against a flat tax. Of course, I'm not sure anything Jesus did say would argue in favor of a flat tax either.

@maxdancona,

Dr. Carson recommended a simplified tax system and mentioned a flat tax
in the process, but he covered much more that you obviously blocked out.

@maxdancona,
There you go. Sell all your posessions. For what? To get more money, of course.

I particularly liked this snippet

"we need to concentrate on being respectful of those people with whom we disagree"

If only Obama would follow that advice...

@H2O MAN,
I don't deal directly with Mr. Obama on a daily basis.

I'd be pleased enough if the people who post at A2K followed that imprecation.

@roger,
I am sorry roger, it was sell your possessions to give to the poor. This idea is throughout the gospel of Jesus, for example.

Quote:
Just then a man came up to Jesus and asked, “Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?”

“Why do you ask me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, keep the commandments.”

“Which ones?” he inquired.

Jesus replied, “‘You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, honor your father and mother,’ and ‘love your neighbor as yourself.’”

“All these I have kept,” the young man said. “What do I still lack?”

Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”

When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth.

Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Truly I tell you, it is hard for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.”

@CoastalRat,
Jesus has nothing to do with modern day tax policy.

The issue is the willingness of these conservative Christians to prostitute Jesus for their crass political ends, the the mindless echo chamber that think this clown is saying anything remotely intelligent.

If I were a Christian, I would be offended that they would use Jesus that way.

Obama prostituting children the way he does is not offensive to you... that's interesting.

Dr. Carson's solution to America's health care situation is brilliant...
We should dump ObamaCare and adopt Carson's plan right away.

Do you know what the word "prostituting" means?

That is a very nice picture.
