On Saturday, a Tennessee boy discharged a pistol at a sheriff's deputy's wife, killing her instantly. On Monday, a New Jersey boy left a 6-year-old neighbor in serious condition after a rifle fired at his head.

Child shoots, kills Tenn. deputy's wife at weekend cookout
NASHVILLE, TENN. -- Authorities say a 4-year-old who gained access to a loaded gun during a family
cookout has shot and killed the wife of a Wilson County sheriff's deputy.
The shooting took place Saturday evening inside the Lebanon home of Deputy Daniel Fanning.
Authorities say the deputy and a male relative had been looking at firearms in a bedroom when
the 4-year-old picked up a loaded gun on a bed and fired it once, hitting Josephine Fanning.
The 48-year-old wife -- the two had just married last year -- was pronounced dead on the scene.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation was called to investigate.
"He was actually showing another person that was there at the house some of his weapons he had
locked in a secure gun safe," Sheriff Robert Bryan told CBS Nashville affiliate WTVF-TV.
The sheriff said no one saw Deputy Fanning's 4-year-old nephew walk into the room.
"Split second, we're talking about seconds for that kid to walk in that room unbeknownst to them,
grab that gun and it goes off." Sheriff Bryan told the station.
The 4-year-old picked up the loaded gun and fired it once, hitting Josephine Fanning. She was
pronounced dead on the scene.
Ada County Sheriff's deputies are investigating an accidental shooting that took place Saturday at the Fort Boise Gun Show at Expo Idaho.
Deputies were called to the Garden City site just before 3 p.m. for a report of a gun fired inside the exhibit hall. Witnesses told emergency dispatchers a man had been hit in the eye.
Deputies say the firearm that caused the injury was part of a vendor's display at the gun show. A person attending the show picked up a large-caliber handgun and unintentionally fired it into a display, not realizing a round had been left inside.
Officers say the single round hit two other guns in the display. Flying shrapnel hit two bystanders.

A Juniata gun shop owner was accidentally shot while repairing a rifle, according to Altoona police.
Robert E. Buchanan, owner of Pioneer Gun Shop, 615 N. Second Ave., was taken to Altoona Regional just before 10 a.m. Friday after he was struck in the torso by a 7.62 by 39 mm round, said Altoona police Lt. Jeffrey Pratt.

I would have sworn when you started this thread, that you wouldn't be able to keep it going and would "run out of ammunition". I understand that statistically within a large population size these types of accidents are probably insignificant in comparison to others, but damn... it's pretty sad and a bit appalling that they are happening even enough to keep this thread going.

A 52-year-old man is recovering at a Lincoln hospital Sunday night after accidentally shooting himself in the leg.
It happened at Big Shots Indoor Shooting Range shortly after 11:30 a.m. Sunday.
Lincoln Police said the 52-year-old was taking a concealed carry class, when he went to put the .22 caliber gun in a holster on his hip and it went off.
A retired police officer accidentally shot himself when he dropped his gun inside a Des Plaines school while attending his grandson's Boy Scout troop meeting.
Police and school officials said the man was carrying his licensed, loaded gun inside a fanny pack Monday evening at Iroquois School, and that the gun went off and a bullet struck him in the leg after he dropped the pack.

The 7-year-old boy who was shot Friday, died at 6:44 p.m. Saturday at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Saline County Sheriff Glen Kochanowski said Sunday morning.

During a gun show Saturday afternoon at the National Guard armory in Hastings, a handgun was accidently fired. Nobody was injured.
During the show, a vendor was showing a customer a handgun. The customer asked the vendor how to disassemble or field strip the weapon. The vendor inserted his magazine and ended up accidentally loading a round into the chamber.
When he went to strip down the weapon, he had to pull the trigger. He pointed the gun at the floor, pulled the trigger, and a shot rang out.
