3-year-old shoots, kills mother in Oklahoma

TULSA, Okla.- A mother died after police say she was accidentally shot by her toddler son Monday night.

Officials say the woman was changing her daughter's diaper when her 3-year-old son shot her in the head.

A neighbor told police the boy found the [loaded] gun underneath a couch.

The woman was rushed to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.

According to authorities, the victim's husband was not home at the time of the accident.

I've never understood why it takes more education/training to get a driver's license than to own/carry a firearm.

In Tennessee, I had to take a one-hour class for my concealed carry permit. At the end, the instructor handed out a multiple-choice test and openly gave the correct answers to anyone who asked. Then we had to go out to the range and shoot a paper target for maybe 5 minutes.

The test to get my driver's license was much more difficult. Also, when I visited a friend in Mississippi, I got pulled over by a cop and showed him my permit, as required. We chatted about the requirements to get one.


In Mississippi, there's no test (unless they've changed).
You just pay your money and get the permit.

KNOXVILLE — A veteran officer was injured early Monday after accidentally discharging a weapon, according to Knoxville Police Department spokesman Darrell DeBusk.

Off-duty officer Bill McMahan, who has been with the agency 33 years, shot himself in the thigh with a .40-caliber semi-automatic Glock handgun, according to DeBusk.

TULSA, Oklahoma - A Tulsa resident has been hospitalized with a gunshot wound after she tried to fend off two people who tried to rob her at her north Tulsa home.

Tulsa police said she was outside having a yard sale in the 1600 block of North Evanston Avenue on Saturday afternoon when a man and woman approached her. Police said they aren't sure how at this time, but the trio somehow ended up inside the home's kitchen.

According to TPD Sgt. Dedlorn Sanders, while the suspects began gathering up the victim's belongings, she produced a gun to defend herself. Sanders said the male suspect tried to wrangle the gun away from her, and the victim accidentally shot herself in the hand during the struggle.

Police in Pinellas Park said that a Florida man accidentally shot himself in the face, and then died on Tuesday while he was threatening his wife and dog with a gun.

According to the Tampa Bay Times, 57-year-old Dennis Eugene Emery was arguing with his wife in their home at around 6 a.m. on Tuesday morning.

ATLANTA (AP) — Police say a 15-year-old Atlanta girl who died after accidentally being shot apparently retrieved her father's gun so visiting friends could play with the firearm.

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. – Authorities say a New Jersey goose hunter who was out with his father died after he accidentally shot himself in the head and neck.

The accident occurred around 4:15 p.m. Saturday in a wooded area of West Windsor.

Earlier reports indicated the older man had accidentally shot his son. But police say the man was killed when his own gun discharged. Further details on how the shooting occurred have not been disclosed.

HYANNIS (CBS) – A man walking his dog was shot by a hunter on Cape Cod Monday evening.

Police are calling this an accidental shooting, but the hunter is facing several charges.

At about 5pm Monday, the hunter, 47-year-old Sean Houle of Marstons Mills, was in the woods near Mary Dunn Road in Barnstable.


He was hunting with what police call a black powder gun, almost like a musket. He fired two shots and then heard the victim scream out, ‘stop I’ve been hit.’
