@OmSigDAVID,
So what exactly is it about guns that fires your fetish?

S'cuse the pun.

Or would you call it a fixation, given there's no sexual element?

@farmerman,
Qua the double action revolvers, the crane is swung out
and obviously un-loaded so that every chamber can be cleaned;
qua the single action revolvers, the entire cylinder is removed.
Either way: the firing pin has no access to the cylinder.

If THAT is so humorous, then please explain
how the revolver can be discharged in those circumstances?!?

I await your elucidation.

I was about to allude to a security concern
that I had when I was home alone at age 8,
but then, on reflection, I remembered that going back to age 3,
I was reposing in bed, fondling revolvers in my memory
that I 'd seen on the police. It was esthetic allure.
We kids described them as being: "neat"; we discussed guns a lot!
Like cars, I like their looks,
some better than others. (No offense, but the English Webley does not grab me.)

In gunnery ranges of NY, I have been accosted (not molested)
by the police who commended me upon upon the beauty of my
personal ordnance; e.g., my blued 2 inch .38 caliber Taurus 85
Revolver with gold-plated trim and polished rosewood grips,
my 1940 9mm German Luger P-O8, or my 3.5 inch barreled
.45 Ruger Vaquero in stainless steel mirror & my .44 Magnum
7.5 inch barreled Ruger SuperBlackhawk. I tend to favor
short barreled revolvers; compact.
I have several 2 inch .38 caliber revolvers, one of which I carried
everywhere for years beginning when I was 8 years of age, until
I found out about the Philippine Insurrection, whereupon I up-graded
to a .44 revolver with hollowpointed slugs for maximal stopping power.
For many years, my primary defense weapon was a 2 inch double action
.44 caliber Taurus Model 445 revolver in stainless steel mirror.
(It saved me one night, when I was fired upon), but my friend,
Donald, in NY has convinced me to change to my .45 caliber
single action Ruger Vaquero, in that .45 Long Colt ammunition
is less likely to overpenetrate than is a .44, even with hollowpointed slugs.
The recoil is more comfortable, being a heavier revolver with a lighter load.
I 'm in some doubt about this. I might revert to the 2 inch .44 special.
At one of my gunnery ranges, I encountered a Boyscout Troop,
about 2O boys aged about 12, with their Scoutmaster, probably
one of their fathers. I was able to give them a few $1OO.oo for
ammunition & ice cream, and show them some of my guns.
Thay too, were pleased. I shud have exhorted them to fonetic spelling,
but I lacked the presence of mind for that. Do thay have ice cream in England ?

Lordyaswas wrote:

Yes, a fixation or an obsession;
I think about guns and liberty of their convenient use a lot.
In the real world, I discuss them a lot with friends who r knowledgable
of guns and we go target shooting. I 'm a fairly decent shot, not bad,
but I was never good enuf to be on a gunnery team
at any of the schools that I have attended.

The enjoyment of gunnery movement is largely pro-family,
very wholesome. Families ofen attend the meetings,
multiple generations, picnics. I prefer target shooting to ball games.
There survives a letter of Thomas Jefferson to his 12 year old nephew
wherein he counsels the boy to always take his gun with him
when he goes out to walk, and to practice with it for proficiency.
Jefferson recommends gunnery practice over ball games; I agree.

I have never met a person of either gender
who said or implied that his or her erotic ideation included guns.

Its like oil and water.

Guns represent the ability to CONTROL the situation
in a predatory emergency. Every predatory event is a contest of power.
The victim needs to bring MORE power to bear upon the predator
(be he man or beast) to enable him to prevail.

Personal possession of defensive guns results in self-reliance,
as distinct from reliance upon the collective for one's very existence.
It tends to promote Individualism and libertarianism. Thay r the soul of America.

Good Guy Shoots Moslem
Before His Beheading Second Woman

Moslem Defeated by Guy With Gun

On September 26, an armed company owner intervened in an attack
by shooting a former employee who had already beheaded one worker
and was stabbing another.
The attack took place at Vaughan Foods in Moore, Oklahoma.
Fox News reports that the alleged attacker, 30-year-old Alton Nolen,
drove his car into another car in the parking lot of Vaughan Foods'
parking lot, then entered the business and beheaded 54-year-old
Collee Hufford
. He was allegedly stabbing a second victim, 43-year-old Traci Johnson,
when company owner Mark Vaughan drew the gun he was carrying and shot Nolen.
Vaughan is C.O.O. of the food company and "a reserve county deputy."
Moore Police Sgt. Jeremy Lewis praised Vaughan's actions, calling him a "hero."
He said the situation "could have gotten a lot worse" if had not had his gun.

The Associated Press reports that Lewis added: "This was not going to stop
if [Vaughan] didn't stop it."

Nolen was recently fired from Vaughan Foods. The FBI is "probing whether
Nolen's recent conversion to Islam had anything to do with the attack."

Gosh, Mr. Parados, I consider myself free
to comment on history in addition to current events.
Maybe its just old habits; when we were arguing motion practice
during my legal career, we all asserted cases in point,
some of which were 1OOs of years old. Their value did not expire.

I love your thread,
but in respect for the truth, it is worth observing
that many more people were injured by means other than accidental discharge of firearms
(e.g., automotive collisions, falls, drownings, poisonings or medical malpractice).
I anticipate your rejoinder that I shud open threads concerning them.

According to the Centers for Disease Control,
in 2011, there were 11,068 deaths from use of firearms,
whereas there were about an annual 443,000 deaths from use of cigarettes.

According to this article in the Journal of the American Medical Association,
http://www.health-care-reform.net/causedeath.htm
Journal of the American Medical Association wrote:

"According to several research studies in the last decade,
a total of 225,000 Americans per year have died as a result
of their medical treatments:

12,000 deaths per year due to unnecessary surgery
7000 deaths per year due to medication errors in hospitals

20,000 deaths per year due to other errors in hospitals

80,000 deaths per year due to infections in hospitals

106,000 deaths per year due to negative effects of drugs"

I believe that it is helpful
to our accurate comprehension of the state of the world
that we keep everything in its proper relative perspective
.

Article 2, Section 2, Subsection 2 of the US Constitution
requires ratification of a treaty by 2/3 of the Senate (67 of 1OO Senators in favor)
before that treaty can come into effect in America.
THE US SENATE VOTED 53-46 AGAINST

I favor GOOD.

Lordyaswas wrote:

Yes. The HAPPINESS of the day is attributable, in part, to the fact that as progressively
more and more Americans defensively arm themselves, future victims of that "mass killing"
will be sufficiently well-armed as to kill the threat as soon as possible,
thereby preventing him from much damage.
Do u get the point ?
In contrast, the oppressionists woud concentrate a MONOPOLY of power in the evil predator, leaving his victims helpless.
That is un-American, abhorrently seditious and politically correct.

Q.E.D.: freedom wins; leftist oppression loses.

Gun control is a repudiation of the most basic Americanism.
