What kind of incense burner is this?

The priest held an incense burner, a long chain with bells and an ornate orb on the end containing cinders.

Does the latter half of the sentence explain what the incense burner is or the chain adn the orb are other things not related to the incense burner?

Yes. The second half of that sentence is a description of the incense burner. It's called a Thurible. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thurible
