@spendius,
Here you go - tagine doesn't have to be made in a tagine:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/wordofmouth/2013/mar/13/how-make-perfect-chicken-tagine

I do suppose that if you only eat gruel, a tagine (basically a stew) is something posh, poor fellow.

Adds - how to preserve lemons:

@ossobuco,
I don't know where I go osso. A tagine is an earthenware pot and if a casserole dish is substituted you have, I'm afraid, an ordinary, everyday casserole.

Congratulations to Herself and her group. And I'll have some of that tangine,
whatever that is. Yumm, I'm sure.

Good grief...this is reminding me of Himself. But I guess that was back on Abuzz. Are you referring to his wife...who wrote to us to tell us about his death?

@spendius,
just surrender meekly and shut up. Weve learned what a tagine is. The fact that there is a TAGINE POT is of no consequence to the recipe of which McTee spoke and osso confirmed.

@farmerman,
I've never used a clay pot, as I've been unlucky in my thrift shop searches for one.
On reading the Guardian article's comments section, I see the spanish tend to use pressure cookers for the same tagines (there are many kinds). Besides, I'm caught up in some tangle of my own mostly italian cooking and my present interest in new mexico/mexican cooking, leaving me making strangely spicy pizzas and pastas. Luckily this all gives me lots jarred leftover sauces to confuse myself with.

@Frank Apisa,
I think Himself's wife was called Espera, not Herself.

@ossobuco,
e had one of the Chinese clay pots I bought while in China. It lasted a few years and then, because it was probably fired at cone 1, it just gradually disintegrated. NOW, when I see all the extra chemicals and industrial ingredients they add to their foodstuffs, I just hope we didnt toxify our systems with heavy metals and ****

espoir was suicidal for a time. I hope she has come to terms and is now doing well.

I'm just referring to McTag's wife in the same way he referred to her in his post. Herself. I don't remember Himself or his wife from abuzz.

You can have damn near any recipe you want cooked in a tagine. If you cook any of them in anything else you don't have a tagine. To claim to have is simply a lower-middle-class affectation.
