@Sturgis,
Potato Soup is one of Wassau's specialties. I think you'll like it Sturgis. It's got just the right amount of everything you like. Something potato does sound good. But I'm like Frank (not pregnant) just trying to loose a few pounds before Spring. But yummmmm. Potato does sound good.

Over there Wassau, in the corner. And black coffee too.

May I have some coffee? Black as my soul, thank you. I took some ribs out of the freezer last night. I know what I'm having for dinner.

I'm stuck at home for the next few hours...so I'll have breakfast here.

I'd have eggs and bacon with a side of toast...

...if I had eggs.

And there's no bacon.

Holy ****...there's no bread to make toast either.

I guess I'd make do with a glass of orange juice...if only I had bought the OJ yesterday.

I'll be in, shortly.

No, Wassau...I did not call you Shorty.

Morning all. I'm hungry already. Wassau, I'll have some scrambled eggs and a slice of focaccia - but first I need my black coffee. Thanks!

@farmerman,
fm--do you think Melville's fall from literary grace after Moby Dick came out was due to that sentence about the ladies turning their wicks down a little when at their dressing tables?

The sentence did jump off the page when I read it. A prophetic warning but not one agreeable to business opinion.

Has coffee got some religious or mystical significance in the US. It's just another hot drink here. Not quite as popular as tea but more than Ovaltine. Cocoa and Horlicks.

I read that some French symbolists in the late 19th century would stew large dollops of it with a pellet of hashish until it was as viscous as runny custard, swallow the lot and start composing.

It's a performance enhancing drug.

You'll get no cherry soda, 'cause they got to fill that quota
And the way things are I guess they never will......
They've got an awful lot of coffee in Brazil
And lots more here, way down in Lola's Grill

@McTag,
Yes--it's quite an experience on certain occasions. It can be overcome by closing one eye.
