@vonny,
Speaking of bumps, baby bumps that is, I understand that today is the due date for the latest royal birth.

Is there excitement about that on your side of the pond?

I wasn't aware of that until you just posted it.

That's how excited I am.

@izzythepush,
Laughing Laughing Laughing

I think many Americans tend to be enthusiastic Anglophiles.

Wassau is prepared for either the birth of a girl or a boy.

And I love his British-style lunch entrée--it's just perfect for a summer day, and I love tabouleh.

A traditional British favorite, roast lamb, takes a Mediterranean twist with homemade tzatziki sauce and tabouleh.

@firefly,
I understand if the baby doesn't debut today, William and Harry will be playing polo tomorrow. That's good. They'll be maintaining a family tradition. Despite being the highest pee'rs in the land, they still prefer their po lo.

@Debacle,
The Queen is keeping busy too.

The royal show must go on.

The wait for the royal baby continues at a London hospital today, but Queen Elizabeth II and members of the royal family went on with opening the Coronation Festival at Buckingham Palace to celebrate the 60th anniversary of her crowning.

The queen, dressed in a blue-and-white flowery patterned dress and white gloves despite the warm sun, arrived by golf cart for a royal preview of the festivities in the grounds of her London palace, accompanied by her son, Prince Charles, and his wife, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.

Until today, I thought that the child was due in September! Embarrassed I do like the older royals, but, unlike my parents, don't read Court circulars or stand for the Queen when she gives her Christmas speech!

There's a television programme on BBC1 at the moment entitled 'The Queen's Coronation Festival Gala' - been quite a lot of tributes to her Majesty over the past year. Quite rightly too - she's a nice little woman who's done a jolly good job for a lot of years.

@firefly,
A fascination with the Royals isn't something that affects that many Brits. It's just something that's there, like the post office.

Although we do tend to offer our support whenever they give us a day off.

If they'd announced a week's public holiday a year ago, people would be going mental right now.

@vonny,
Waiting for the birth of a baby is a lot less depressing than most of the things in the news right now. They are an attractive couple and should have a very pretty baby.

Want to join me for a spot of tea while we wait for the birth announcement?

Mmm, it does look rather tempting. Thank you firefly, with two lumps please.

The royal birth? Well, the world's press are gathered now, the stage is set, just need Kate to cooperate!

I really think it fascinates Americans more--it's the stuff of fairy tales and pageantry--neither of which are prevalent in our culture--coupled with a certain mystique about being "Royal". I find that aspect of it sort of other-worldly, but as tradition, and history, and continuity, things my country also lacks, it's quite interesting, and the impending birth of an heir to the throne incorporates all of that.

I am an unabashed Anglophile.

This tea is lovely...it makes me feel as though I am in England right now.

@firefly,
I am fascinated by our history, but the Royals are - as izzythepush said - something we take for granted. Nice people, but very ordinary. Rather inbred up to now, but with Kate's bloodline mingling with the Windsor's, any new stock ought to be sturdier and hardier. Looking forward to seeing if it is a girl, now that she can be queen!
