We just had a great one in NYC a few weeks ago. JoeNation, myself, Thomas, tsarstepan, Mame, Roberta, Frank Apisa, and a few friends & relatives. There's an "NYC in May!" thread somewhere around here...

Jespah's still in charge. She's around here somewhere...

Wassau just brought me some of his freshly made strawberry ice cream. Perfect snack right now. It's the first day of Summer, and this tastes like Summer.

@Eva,
We'll be having two here in Toronto this summer - one scheduled around Gracie's visit to her grandparents, the other based on Thomas' semi-annual trip to the big summer fair with me and my high school friends.

@Eva,
And we've had a number of mini greets in Albuquerque.
And Cicerone Imposter and Fbaezer met in Mexico the City recently (I'm plain old jealous).

I know the word is envious, but I've always liked the word jealous.

@ossobuco,
That's true, Osso. I'm sure there have been others I'm forgetting, too.

That ice cream looks scrumptious, firefly! And homemade! Wassau, would you bring me a bowl?

I'd like to share some of that, ff, if that's okay with you. We had a brief glimpse of summer here last week, but it seems to have gone again - I much prefer the virtual sunshine that's streaming through the windows of the Coffee House. Might even take the ice cream out of doors - looks inviting out there!

@farmerman,
I was taught they mean somewhat different things, but these matters can change. I use words the way I enjoy - unless of course I'm in the midst of typoing or am just plain old wrong.

@ossobuco,
Let him keep thinking they mean the same thing osso. It allows educated people to snigger to themselves. As they do when they hear "disinterested" when "uninterested" is meant.

If you don't know by now that everything means to fm exactly what it means to fm you have not been paying attention. Even "Science" only means what he says it means. And once he has said what something means that's it. It means that forever to him because his pride would be hurt if he retracted.

It would be the slippery slope to sackcloth garbed kneeling at the altar rails in abject penitence. We could dispense with the ashes to show how humane we are these days.

'I don't know what you mean by "glory",' Alice said.

Humpty Dumpty smiled contemptuously. 'Of course you don't — till I tell you. I meant "there's a nice knock-down argument for you!"'

'But "glory" doesn't mean "a nice knock-down argument",' Alice objected.

'When I use a word,' Humpty Dumpty said, in rather a scornful tone, 'it means just what I choose it to mean — neither more nor less.'

'The question is,' said Alice, 'whether you can make words mean so many different things.'

'The question is,' said Humpty Dumpty, 'which is to be master — that's all.'

@ossobuco,
Just because spendi says something, means that you think he knows of what he speaks. If you look up "jealous" and its many forms in the OED. THE FIRST definition is "envious"

I wish Vonny could beam me into the photo she posted. That looks like a perfect was to spend a summer day. Could Wassau bring me some strawberry ice cream there?
