@farmerman,
Of course, I understand you lack of interest in buckwheat as a crop. I still associate hiving bees with honey production in mind. Buckwheat honey is touted to be an excellent variety. But perhaps it's not to modern tastes.

Thanks for the sassafras info. Will have to see what I can do. They're a damned annoyance, not so much the suckers, which are readily dealt with by mowing. But the tree roots invade the sewer line, which have to be cleared couple of times a year. I should have invested in a roto-rooter years ago. I've paid the plumber enough over the years to have bought at least two of them. Which I suppose I have for him.

@Debacle,
Ive tasted buckwheat honey and my alfafa honey has a mpre flowery taste and isn't as dark tarry looking as buckwheat. Lotsa people swear by buckwheat honey's
maltey" taste.

My favorite ALL TIME honey has been fresh Orange Bossom honey right from the grove hives near Amockalee Fla. That is the most florid tasting honey. (HOWEVER-never buy it in a store as a pure product cause "Orange Blossom" honey sold by the big boys is a BLEND of other kinds of honey and the flavor is totlly washed away by diluting it with clover , alfalfa, and other sources including palmetto flowers

Difficult choice.

I'm not sure if these cars are for sale in the UK.

You are, from what you have told us over the tears, a significantly greater than average contributor to the toxic soup which makes it difficult to understand why you are worried about the bees declining.

By simple logic you are worried about your own behaviour. 40 mile round trips for a pizza, going to view the whales, fishing in Argentina and constructing an authentic currach from DIY materials are just a few of your activities.

I gather from the news that the "simple life" is back into 3%+ growth so I don't suppose your rejection of that great biologist Goethe's advice to sit quietly in your room is in any danger of undergoing reform.

In a few years you will be expressing concern over birds declining and hoping to persuade us of your compassionate concern for their well being and making us all feel guilty about not being up to your moral standards.

You're just a silly old fool.

I assume you mean that beekeepers are getting a helping hand. Bees needed no helping hand before you silly sods arrived on the scene.

Do you think us chaps can ever hope for equality?

I think it will be the one that was used in the first commercial break in the Royal Ascot coverage yesterday.

I'll see if I can find the one which I think has excited ff so thrummingly.

It was, of course, a hopeless advert because Jaguar fan belts don't get shredded like that. But who cares about such details eh?

They weren't selling cars.

Theres a significant difference between our two depositions and I see that you still have some comprehension problems regarding the point, but Im not in any mood to engage your stupid contrarian ways today, its too nice out .

My, your interests in my life are certainly beyond simple conversation.
Are you jealous because my life allows me some time and the wherewithal allows me opportunities?

@farmerman,
This is the buckwheat I know, Eriogonum fasciculatum (wild buckwheat). I've no idea if it can be used for cooking, just guessing that it is possible but unlikely.

http://www.smmtc.org/plantpix/pix_Buckwheat_California_03.JPG

From wiki -
Many Native American groups utilized parts of this plant for a number of medicinal uses, including the treatment of headache, diarrhea, and wounds. The Zuni people use a poultice of powdered root and apply it cuts and arrow or bullet wounds. A decoction of root taken after parturition to heal lacerations. This same decoction is also taken for hoarseness and colds involving the throat.[2]
This species is particularly attractive to honey bees (Apis mellifera) and is a good source of nectar over many months in dryer areas.

@ossobuco,
a pretty wild flower. The domesticated variety has a similar plant and its not much use except as a grain source and the flowers from which the dark honey comes from. The hay certainly is not worth much (too stemmy and coarse, only goats will eat it).

@farmerman,
Nah!! What you do with your time and your wherewithal are not what everybody does with theirs. Your seeming assumption that what you do with those things is something which you can conceive anybody being envious of, jealous is the wrong word, especially me, implies that you think they are in some way superior and, very unscientifically, without offering any evidence that they are superior or in what way they might be if they are.

It's just another version of the "I'm better than you" bullshit.

From the little you have told us, selecting the best bits, those that demonstrate your superior way of life, about what you do with your time and your wherewithal, I can say, with 100% confidence, that I wouldn't go two strides in the direction of any of them.

There is more than a hint also that your idea of "wherewithal" is something to get a brass band out to celebrate.

Remember the RIC fm. (The reverse invidious comparison.) The backbone of your every post.

There you go again. Blurting out that I have " some comprehension problems", not bothering to explain what they are, and using a "nice" day as the excuse, which it can't be seeing as the "nice" day didn't tempt you away from that "patting yourself on the back" drivel.

I don't think bees have enough time to adapt themselves to the toxic soup we have delivered them to accommodate the timescale of your potential future worrying about them.

@spendius,
All of anything Ive ever presented were always as a result of a thread on a particular subject or a response to someone else.

Im just amazed at how you seem to dwell on some of this **** as if its really important (ITS BEEN 3 FUCKIN YEARS SINCE I FINISHED MY CURRACH) Why not move on with your pitiful life. Ascribing motives to anything anyone else does on these for a is a typical small minded spendi attribute to which Ive grown accustomed and (s many hve stated in ways better than I)--"You carry about all the attributes of a troll whose own life is emptied of any worth and goal.

Ill till try to communicate with you ven though you have your own mission to stave off your apparently pathological boredom.

Its 5 soon oclock so you can start in on the evenings libation. Its still a lovely morning here and Im gonna excuse myself from your fascinating company.
(I have an urgent need of a haircut)
