@firefly,
Sad that a bouncer has to be employed to keep the panhandlers away! Pigeons are more than welcome!

Yeah, but those peregrine falcons are a little off-putting.

@ossobuco,
Do we have some fiber for Spendius?

Ah, yes, Wassau, could you help us drag in those hemp sacks?

After we boil them down, we can have them cut into Triskuit biscuits, and sauteed with a few rue leaves.

and they would include you in a flash if you pointedly addressed, with sources, the issues I've raised.

But I have no need to provide sources because I already know that stuff is going on, has gone on, and will continue to go on while ever the concept of "nation" exists in the human mind. It is not news to me.

It is reasonable for people to not want to know very much about our collective inhumanities when they feel that there is nothing that they can do about them. It us understandable that they prefer to feel civilised and enlightened.

I feel sure that every one of them would stop the carnage if they knew how. I would anyway. We are improving. We inch towards the future. There are no giant strides. If there were the cure would be worse than the disease.

I support your efforts to nudge us in the direction you want and because some object to your methods does not mean that everybody who reads your strictures also objects. Be content to have the platform.

We need a measure of hypocrisy. The stark truth can hold us back.

Lola sits down on the sofa, next to spendius. Come on, spendi, you look so gloomy. Let's talk about Jane Austen. I'm not bored by it in the least. Jane Austen is one of my favorite writers. Please do tell us more about what you've read.

I am not in the least gloomy Lola and I am surprised that an elegant, refined lady would think of suggesting that I am. I don't recall ever feeling gloomy and I have been in a few sticky spots in my time.

Jane Austen's books are extremely difficult to discuss. They provide a very scientific glimpse into the female psyche. I don't really follow the story. An author can have a working character do anything. Louisa need not fall off the Cobb in Lyme trying to get herself enfolded in Captain Wentworth's arms.

It is Ms Austen's mind that is on view. Which interests me. I can see why it might not interest you though.

@vonny,
Well the herbal triscuits (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ruta_graveolens) could be washed down with some nice grappa..

(I'm kidding. I do know some cultures use rue in their cooking, but, it seems, quite carefully.)

@ehBeth,
I asked wassau to cook up some roasted red onion and roasted potato soup, with some fava beans in it, and dumplings. It's exceptionally good, if you like those things. I'm probably exuding wafts of garlicky goodness, or badness if you don't like it.

@vonny,
Up on the roof. This area has just been completed and open for business. The music is fine.

There's a sign on the wall next to the door as you enter. No fighting allowed.

All those who want to "discuss" or disagree, please do so downstairs. There's music and fresh air up here. Let's enjoy it.

@ossobuco,
I think I'll ask Wassau to get me a bowl without the dumplings.

Garlic is almost always a wonderful idea. Caramelized garlic mmmmmmm

I wonder if Sybil has time to throw some bulbs of garlic on the corner of the grill.
